The way the perks are right now, you can't really play HOE without leveling. HOE at least in the last game was the most fun difficulty, and in this game once they get a bit more balancing done it should be the most fun for experienced players too. I see no purpose in forcing people that want to play whatever difficulty they want to spend like 100 hours on normal or hard grinding to level. This is a game with tons of gore and other content suited for older players, which means a lot of people that play this game are going to have jobs or be in college. Not everyone has a ridiculous amount of time at their disposal to spend leveling just to be able to play the difficulty that they want. I'd rather them remove leveling entirely than have them remove leveling maps. Killing floor is honestly fun in enough to play for hundreds of hours without needing the concept of leveling to draw out play time. I don't have a problem with leveling being in the game, I just don't want to be either forced to level myself, or limited to playing on private servers that have mods that set everyone to 25. I'm sure plenty of other people would agree with me on this.

Completely agree with that. My original sentiment was that the game should not require hundreds of hours of leveling in order to start having fun, because as it is now most teams of randoms are not fun to play with and I'd rather be able to play on Suicidal or HoE without having to rank all the perks up individually to 25 for however long that would take. Keep in mind this isn't an MMO, it's a team PvE fps, so in the end what really matters is good teammwork, not the amount of hours it took you to grind to the maximum level.

Here's the good news: It doesn't

It takes about 15-30 hours to max out a perk, which is the absolute bare minimum of experience you should have with the skills, weapons, role and general playstyle of that perk to not drag your team down on HoE.

I don't have 180 hours to max all 6 perks, or another 120 to max the next 4 that come out. Do you honestly have that much free time or that little of a life where you don't see any problem with this? Also trying to level demo on day one, it took almost an hour getting to level 1. The difference of exp between levels is not constant so this only increases. I'd say unless you're getting a majority of the kills in every game you play, 50 hours is a better estimate to how long it would take to get to lv 25 from 0. I don't have 500 hours just to max my perks when the point of the game is to PLAY THE GAME not level up.

Yes, you would be surprised if you realized how many people don't have anything more to their lives than leveling up all their KF2 perks.
Another thing is that if it took you one hour to get from lvl0 to lvl1, you must be doing something really wrong.

Anyone who says they can max out one perk, let alone several, in just one or two game sessions is obviously not leveling up in a legit way. If that was possible, they'd have to SERIOUSLY nerf the XP gains all around.

EDIT: Looks like I've actually gone up more than one perk level per hour, having all my perks now at at least 7 (with the highest at 10) after 40 hours.

Does the leveling curve steepen eventually, though? I guess that's the real factor in how long it would take to get a perk to 25 .... but who focuses exclusively on one perk and doesn't level any of the others?

Are there actually people who only like one or two perks???

If you're absolutely bat**** insane it can be done in half that or less, depending on the perk.

But that's assuming you're able to figure out the ins and outs of the new perk('s) pretty quick and have a pretty flawless understanding of mechanics.

Assuming I accurately found your steam account off google based on this username...it looks like you have 230 hours on KF1, and 150 on KF2? If that's you...aren't you one of these people that "have so much free time or that little of a life"? lol

300 hours to max out all the progression in a game is solid imo.

And again, like the other guy said, if it took you an hour to get to level 1...then yeah you're not doing things right.

...hm I guess rereading your post, you're saying you want to spend time "playing" the game, and not leveling up. Well then, why aren't you just playing the game then. Why are you so obsessed with HOE? It was the most fun diff in KF1? Why? Certainly the only reason was that it was the hardest? So if you feel like you can't handle HOE without higher levels, shouldn't the lower difficulties be suitable for you?

HOE on KF1 was reasonably difficult because all the perks could handle the enemies they were supposed to. After getting used to it, my 2 friends and I could win nearly every game in a row without an unreasonable amount of effort. This was because we all were skilled at the game, and FPS games in general.

The reasons I post on the forums about this and other things are:
I don't want have to avoid playing HOE because of imbalanced classes.
I don't want to have to play lower difficulties due to being a lower level.

Regardless, nothing besides disabling xp on triggered spawners done through the unreal kismet would stop leveling maps from working, unless they brought back the whitelist for maps, which is completely absurd since playing on most custom maps would give no exp. Blacklisting them serves no purpose since you can just change the name of it with no adverse effects. Even with triggered spawners not giving exp, there are still plenty of workarounds for getting much faster exp. Attempting to remove leveling seems like it would be unreasonably difficult and eventually just a big waste of time since people will usually find workarounds to whatever they change within a few days.
