No ETA on when it will be patched in, but I've added a check to make sure that anyone who hasn't at the very least spawned in and played can no longer get achievements for that game. So, loitering at ready up or joining and spectating in the Hans wave to achievement farm will no longer be possible.

Playing this game for the half decade taught me this: trust no random player. If they don't say hello when they join the server, they are passive enemies, increasing game difficulty by their presence. That's what I learned from pubs.

Man, you're really missing the point of co-op games. :( I understand the frustration of the occasional incompetent randoms, but co-op games are all about fast comradery with complete strangers. Sometimes people aren't going to want to talk (they could be girl gamers who worry about getting harassed if someone hears their voice), or won't speak the same language as you, but that doesn't mean they aren't on your side.

One of the most fun co-op experiences I ever had was joining a random L4D2 game and finding out the other three people exclusively spoke Deutsch. :D All I understood was my name and the panicked "NoNoNoNoNo!!" when I tried to heal someone at a bad time, lol. (we survived the campaign and everything)

I begin every one of my games with greeting the ones already on the server, and whenever somebody joins, I say hello to them. It's not even a thing about coop games. My mother taught me that.
I see your point. But let's take your example now: those people reacted to you. They were willing to play with you.
Some people on KF2 just join our game, completely ignore us, not a chat message, not a heal, no nothing. Then they die and then leave without a word. I'm unwilling to call them anything but griefers, and it's sadly very common.

I'm fairly certain the problem about bad pub experiences don't lie (at least only) with me, because since I ahve been playing KF2 I also got about 40 people on my friendslist, who I actively play with and we are friends now. Those people who could comprehend basic interaction AND know what they are doing in the game.

@HunBonus - Yeah, I'm not saying you're wrong to be frustrated with the bad ones, just don't give up hope. With time, the number of good co-op players will outrank the number of clueless newbies.

I jumped into a random pub today.. we wound up losing, but what I saw in the meantime really gave me confidence. People communicating, people healing each other, people working together to take down scrakes and fleshpounds instead of ditching their teammates to die. It was beautiful.

I agree with you HunBonus.
People who don't even show a reaction to your attempt of exchanging basic pleasantries are usually bad eggs. And since there are so many of them out there you'll never know who you're dealing with if they don't even talk.

A troll, a griefer, a perkeleveler... Will he switch from his level 25 medic to level 0 demo midgame? Will he quit the game the instant you give him money or wait a little longer to push the wave before he leaves? Is that medic really a healer or just somebody who can't play without movement speed boosts?

It's a coop game.
You have to trust that your team plays their part and you in turn have to choose a role that complements your team. How can you even begin to do that if most people mislead you on their role or don't even play any role at all?

I for one don't blame anyone who rufes to put up with this crap over and over again.

It is your server, you pay for it, but I am still a little sad to see so many passworded servers with zero out of 6 players and so many public servers packed to the limit.

Why? There are plenty of pub servers. Never had a problem getting a game except on HoE. Dont seem to be enough of those about. As for passwd protected servers.... < the reason for this is pub players.

Sure they could be set to free when "server owner teams" arent playing but then if any of they team/group want to play a non-pub server game and dont have admin rights.... Well you get the picture.

As stated before, those people playing are going to get kicked anyway to make room for the people who own the server(possibly even mid round without any warning). If it was a case of "you can't password your server" then i honestly wouldn't even bother if i had a server, why own and run a server to play on when you can't access it at any time you feel like? It kinda defeats the purpose of owning a server in the first place.

Yeah. If people are going to leave their servers up all day long and not play on them they could at least let folks pub in them.

You can always lock it up when you and your friends are actually ready to play, right?

Speaking of which, what's generally required, tech-wise, to host a decent server, besides a fast internet connection? A good CPU?

Unfortunately, if there's someone playing in your server, you can't password it sometimes. You have to shut it down or the server will simply not respond to your commands.

verbal communication is overrated. don't expect much of it from strangers who are intelligent good players. not expecting anything from anyone you don't know is a good way to enjoy coop.
all strangers i have friended from meeting on kf2 i didn't communicate with them first few games and we just kept playing more rounds because we won every match easily despite having crappy teammates as we naturally worked together without needing to communicate.
people prove their salt through their actions not their words. i don't care how willing someone is to use teamwork and cooperate if they suck as it won't make them reliable or playing with them fun.

new players don't give a sht as they are just having fun.

the solution to that is people unlocking hell on earth after they get their first level 10 or 15 perk and/or after a certain number of hours playing and maybe also if they have beaten hans on suicidal then they get a message that hoe is unlocked.
that will also work well refreshing game ofr them and something interesting when they might be starting to get abit bored of the game.
this weekend hoe just unplayable most of the time and lost most public hoe matches because of not having something like this and have been having to play suicidal.

Ah. That should really be fixed..

Need the ability for the server-owner to set it to auto-restart as a passworded server after a game in progress. I mean, kicking people out of a then-public server would just be bad etiquette, but there's nothing wrong with saying "Hey you can finish this game but then we need it for private use".

Haha that's last thing I expected to be written by developer. With vote kicking out, and cancerous community that sadly this game has, I don't wanna try to play on public server a lot anymore. I get F***** in all body aparts, and kicked multiple times. And having to deal with such players kills fun no matter how good game is.
That's why private servers are great. No need for random players that are there to just ruin your fun.

FYI: If only admin could kick, I would reconsider public servers

Yeah.... If only sharpshooter were out so I could carry because playing with a the average unorganized team on HOE is hell, which is why I stopped try to do that and only play with friends.

Also preventing people from shutting down a server taking up ram on their computer is ridiculous and I'm pretty sure making it do that fits one of the qualifications of it being a "virus".

#3 we are addressing.

How exactly? Are you just gonna reset perks for people with under a certain amount of play time? What about veteran Killing Floor 1 players who used a leveling map because they wanted to play on HoE and not have to regrind all the perks again?

How about hosting your own pub servers instead of trying to convince server admins?

It really doesn't matter if you have played KF1. Both games are really different. And the preks are different. You don't regrind. Also if you like the game you will probably like playing it, which will result in the ability to level your perks and have fun doing so.

The only reason I stopped playing is because I started getting really bad FPS drops at the end of every wave, so the game is basically unplayable for me since the last update.

I'll start playing again probably on Cristmass, when I buy a new PC or sometimes next year untill then my server will not be runing at all. All my friends got their acheavements allready and stopped playing so there is no need for it anymore.

Well, i have a server and it is password protected, and normally empty, but my reason is that i host this server myself in a old C2Q Q6600 with 3GB of RAM...and the time i had my server public in KF1 the server used to get overloaded easily (it's used for many other things, including data mirroring and TS3 server)

The way the perks are right now, you can't really play HOE without leveling. HOE at least in the last game was the most fun difficulty, and in this game once they get a bit more balancing done it should be the most fun for experienced players too. I see no purpose in forcing people that want to play whatever difficulty they want to spend like 100 hours on normal or hard grinding to level. This is a game with tons of gore and other content suited for older players, which means a lot of people that play this game are going to have jobs or be in college. Not everyone has a ridiculous amount of time at their disposal to spend leveling just to be able to play the difficulty that they want. I'd rather them remove leveling entirely than have them remove leveling maps. Killing floor is honestly fun in enough to play for hundreds of hours without needing the concept of leveling to draw out play time. I don't have a problem with leveling being in the game, I just don't want to be either forced to level myself, or limited to playing on private servers that have mods that set everyone to 25. I'm sure plenty of other people would agree with me on this.

If TWI is actually considering removing leveling maps from the game:
1. A lot of players are going to be very unhappy

2. They should at least have a poll first that asks players their age, whether they are employed or are a part of a higher education program (college or technical school), and whether they want leveling removed or not. Just because people are required to be 18 to play, doesn't mean that half your player base isn't under 18. The average kid starts playing 18+ games at like 10 years old these days and not everyone has as much free time as a kid. I mean just look at the kid that posted this quote. Are you really going to say someone who can't even spell Christmas along with like 20 other words he misspelled isn't a kid? I mean really, there's even spellcheck when typing these comments...
