You will only become a hero when a server selects you (there are limited Hero slots). Until then, you'll be Highly Decorated.
Umm why facepalm....? TW said it was going to take a substantial amount of time to rank up.
Which I'm sure was applied to the casual gamer, and was before double XP was employed. Do you really expect that no one will rank quickly? Does everyone only play an hour or two a day, if that?
I'm a little disappointed too. There are still the weapons to rank up, but.....well, putting 2 to 3 hours a day into BF2 for over a year straight, I never even got close to seeing max rank and that was just purely bragging rights. I was hoping for the leveling time landing somewhere between there and where we are now.
Of course when I was seeing Commanders racking up 350+ team points and 50+ kills a match, I kind of knew it wasn't going to last.

Less. I just got to rank 26 today. I've probably played about 6 hours total. Can't stand playing more than 1 game at a time and if it crashes (which it has done every day for the past 3 days) I don't bother restarting it. I move on to the next thing. Not worth my time or money, but since they already have 1 of those I might as well play the occasional game if it lets me.
People can just join bot servers and level up at will slaying hundreds of bots. It's a joke that this is allowed
BF2's leveling up was one of the many reasons why I got bored of the game and stopped playing. I played on and off for three years, a couple of hours a day here and there and only progressed to staff sgt...... then everything slowed to a crawl.
I just lost interest before I unlocked everything..... and sorry, but personally speaking, I have no interest in playing the game for another three years before I got everything.
I personally don't mind the speed in which the game levels up now, and even if you do level up a class to hero status, it's still only that class and you still need to level up all the other classes.
Case in point, inb4reset, I had the Commander, MG and Assault classes all maxed to Hero, while everything else was still below vet (though Rifleman was vet)
I'm now slowly starting to get back up to where I was, but many of these people who are up in their status probably spent most of their time farming bots.... which I don't care about either. Others can do whatever they want with their game, people can play as long or as little as they want, none of it matters to me cuz I can still take them down with one or two bullets.
Again, why does anybody care?
Play the game you want and let others do the same.... they bought the game like everybody else.
People have been complaining about people in TF2 idling and gaining hats/weapons that way and no matter how much Valve tries to tweak things or make idling less attractive, it's still going and people continue to do it.
People bot farming is a small price to pay to keep having servers with people playing in them..... without allowing people to add bots to servers, you'll either have a handful of servers with 2 people taking pot shots at each other, or servers that are completely empty.
Take your pick.
Myself, I prefer leaving the bots in and letting people play on them.... at least people are still playing and you have things to shoot at.
Sure some people will exploit this and try to rank up faster than they normally would, but again, I don't care what they do with their game. One shot in their chest or head will still take them down in the same fashion as a new recruit.

@Putz: IT'S CONFUSING ! Please modify something ... and the negative score should disappear. If people see "Next Rank level: Hero" and negative score it's normal they will consider it a bug.
120 hours of playing after reset, not always playing Commander (I'm also close to "heroing" my SL) + I played lots of Countdown and Firefights.

LOL so what is the point of a levelling system if people can legally cheat it by killing dumb bots

I think the bot farming thing is being wildly exaggerated here on the forum. Sure, there are always a handful of jerks that does it, but it is actually possible to gain high levels without having exploited bots.

Because it's fun, and because stats matter very little if you got skill. The bot farmed heros goes down just as fast as any other noob. And it gives you xp, so by botfarmerfarming you will quickly have evened out any real or imaginary stats disparity and gained the hero status you covet so.
Why ranking up is a big thing i will never know

The whole hero thing is something this game could have seriously done without. Little scrotes abusing said system is something else this game can seriously do without.

As well as having worst unlock system ever in a FPS, its also the least thought out. I was always wondering why there are still so many 1 man servers out there with the serv browser fixed.
Inb4 another wipe? Or maybe they will finally admit they failed and scrap it, along with those ridiculous MMORPG stat bonuses?
