I have recently bought Killing Floor, and whenever I get hit by an enemy, or anything happens that effects my HUD, (such as blood splotch decals) my whole screen goes black for about 5-20 seconds until the decal goes away. I thought this was normal and was just put there to make the game "more challenging", due to the fact that I can still see my team members names and health bars moving around while i'm blind.. Until my friend recently told me that it wasn't supposed to happen.. I tried turning off Decals but that didn't help. What do I do?

turn off everything - get it down to bare minimum if you haven't already -
and try each direct x option in the top left.
it could well be that your graphics card (what is it btw?) is not displaying a certain effect properly.
perhaps there is another effect linked to being hit, best to rule out everything before investigating further.
