I bought this game on Wednesday and I have had nothing but problems with the game freezing and crashing ALL of the time. I was only able to play the game once with no problems at all, but that was it. Even when I changed the precaching to false, changed the caching size to what ever it was that I set it to, played with the setting in the game it's self, it would still freeze when I get into the map. I emailed and called their support service and they never answered my email and was not really any help on the phone. I had it with this game, I can play any other game with minimal or no problems at all, but this game is different. Unfortuantley, I was not able to return the game where I bought it, not even for store credit, I was only able to exchange it, which I wound up doing, but made a huge scene while I was doing it. Even with the newer game I still ran into problems. So I guess I'll just have to wait till a patch comes out, that hopefully fixes these problems. Don't get me wrong, when I played the game the first and only time, it was awesome and I was imediatly hooked, I'm just not a big fan of all the problems I have to go thru to get the game going, if it even goes at all. Maybe someone else has an idea of what I could do to get the game running smoothly, cause I'm all out of ideas and I tried everything. I guess I'm just going to have to wait for a patch to come out. Sorry for the rant, I'm just alittle pissed about getting the game running.

My specs are, for anyone who is wondering.
P4 2.4
Nvidia 6600gtoc
1.5 gigs of memory

But that's the weird thing though, cause yesterday after I reinstalled it, it still had the same problems. So this moring I reformated my computer, and still ran into the same problem after the reformat, while the other games I reinstalled after the reformat ran fine.

I know how you feel. I've tried everything I can think of and a lot of stuff that doesn't even make sense and the game still crashes without fail within a couple of minutes of play in either Direct3D9 or regular Direct3D mode. However, I can run it in OpenGL mode without crashes, although the framerates take a hit. I'm still not happy but at least I can play. If you haven't tried running it in OpenGL yet, give it a try.

I'm so sorry for your bad experience with the game. Freezing and crashing is more of a driver issue. The useprecache, useprecaching and cachesizemegs options are for shortening the loading times. Nvidia just released Forceware graphics driver version 84.21. Why don't you give it a try? After updating mine my low fps problems have disappeared.

So Nvidia has a new driver out. I updated it this past december, I didn't realize that they pump them out that quick, lol. Thanks I'll give that a try and see what happens.:) When I get the new driver should I put the useprecaching back to True? Or should I just keep everything like it is when I download the new driver?

Seeing you have a 6600gt the precaching thing shouldn't matter. Some say they have faster map load times with it to false, pesonnally I have it to true and still load pretty fast with a system similar to yours: p4 2.4 and a 6800.

Edit: how many RAM does your 6600 have? 128mb or 256mb?

My video card is 128MB. When I first started tinkering around with it, I put the cache size to 128, but the support guy over the phone told me to put it down to 64, and that's where it's at right now. It was origonally at 32.

Do you mean the AGP aperture size in the BIOS?

About the precaching option in the Red Orchestra.ini file you better leave it to true: I read that only users with really old gpu's could gain a real advantage out of it.

I meant that I chaged it to 128 to 64 in the Red Orchestra.ini file in note pad where it says

[Engine.GameEngine]
CacheSizeMegs=64

sorry about the confusion.

ah ok. mine is at 32...and it works fine.

a good advice would be to check the comptability with your soundcard (or you mobo integrated soundcard if that's what you have) and to update ALL your drivers: cpu chipset, soundcard, gpu, etc.. and to re-install directx.

Edit: what render device you chose in the game's display config? try the Direct3D one.

maybe it can help.

Turn off any firewalls. I found that even thought I allowed everything that asked something in STEAM wouldn't let me find servers until I killed the firewall.

YMMV

I down loaded the video driver, but everything else was up to date. So I started to run the game on the settings I modified in the RO.ini file and it froze as soon as I picked my class and cliqued on the tab that gets you into the game. So I rebooted and put everything back to it's original setting in the RO.ini file and I was able to get into the game without any stuttering, but 20 seconds into the game it froze up on me and I had to reboot. Any ideas? I know someone had mentioned this before in a previous thread but I can't find it. I apologize for the questions, I'm sure you guys who are able to play the game would rather be playing then helping me out. But I really do appreciate the help. Thank you guys.

Are you by chance overclocking that card? If so bring it back to stock specs or even underclock it. Is it the black screen with sound loop? If so I'm having that issue if i overclock with a 7800GS OC. It may have something to do with powersupply for you with that card, but try underclocking if you can too, This is of course if you know how to do that stuff.
