I can tell you it isn't the perks. It is the skill

Replaced my hard drive over the weekend I just logged into a network game for the first time. Hard level and the map was the gas station.

I joined during wave 2 so I got in right before wave 3. For some reason, I was lvl 0. I checked my kills and perks and everything was right but I was still lvl 0. Got through wave 3 and thought I'd change perks. changed to commando and was still lvl 0. Sold my LAR to buy a bullpup. NOPE. Can't afford a bullpup. Lvl 0 perk means no discount so now I'm a lvl 0 commando with a LAR and 9mm with low ammo. Almost make it through but multiple husks and sirens back me up and pop me. I switch back to sharpie. Keep in mind, I fight in front of the gas station next to the street.

Anyway, I after a lvl I can get an xbow. Next level I get armor. Next level I get one cannon and get the other cannon one level later. During this game there are two demo guys who are on top of the car wash grenading every living thing so they are raging every scrake and FP. They don't care. They are far away from harm from anything.

Had one lvl 6 sharpie using the m14 and while he wasn't spamming it was obvious that all of his playing ability was in that weapon. A couple lvl 5 supports with aa12 rounded out the team.

I had forgotten how slow loading dual cannons was. But I still ended up with second most kills; only 40 behind a lvl 5 sharpie with an aa12. Not bad for mostly using the 9mm. We got Patty but it was lame. The two demos stacked the top of the building with pipe bombs during the game so it wasn't really any challenge at all.

It was a ton of fun and I think it would be great if TWI figured out a way for the players to adjust their perk levels on the fly.

I've proven to myself that if someone learns to play the game, they can play it no matter the perk level.

It isn't the skill, its the Xbow

Keep thinking that. While the xbow may have dropped the FP and scrakes, I dropped them at a distance. And if you think that doesn't take some skill, headshots across the map (at very rushed shots before nimrod demos popped them once and enraged them or popping them running at full rage), then you are kidding yourself. Take the xbow out of it, and you still have a lvl 0 sharpie using the unperked 9mm and dual cannons (in much later rounds) outkilling 4 lvl 5 and 6 players (with a 2 round lead) using tier 4 weapons. Not to mention staying alive while playing right in the middle of the map.

So keep thinking it was the xbow.

Not hard killing them at range even if they're raged at you, you most likely would of died without the xbow.

So yeah, it was the xbow

Not "most likely", definitely would have. But you act as if popping a raging FP running across the map perpendicular to the shooter is an easy shot. That someone who just bought the game could make that shot. Anyway, just completely ignore the 1000+ other mobs over the last 4 waves with a lvl 0 player right in the middle with unperked base weapons.

After all, it wasn't as if I was barricaded in the back of a room with all of the lvl 5's & 6's at the front shooting down a corridor. Like I kept the xbow on zoom just waiting for an FP or scrake to appear in the sight and had all of the time in the world to make a good shot. I started 2 waves late and I still outkilled 4 of them. I suppose that was the magical xbow as well? Fired bolts that I could bend like in 'Wanted' that automatically homed in on multiple targets across the map.

So yeah, it was the xbow

Keep thinking that if you want.

Skill matters so does the weapon and if u were to compare with someone as skillful as you but he is using the SS perk there will be a huge difference. I hope you understand what i mean and not crticising that you are aided by a OP weapon.

Depending if the target was running straight at you or zigzagging like they're having linedancing competition. It's not really difficult to shoot with the crossbow even at extreme ranges (regarding typical KF map) once you realise that the projectile takes a brief moment to hit depending on the distance, especially with scope that allows you to zoom. I recommend picking up M14 (yes, I said this), use ironsight and start popping headshots when you can barely see the target. Which one's going to require more 'skill' relatively speaking? You don't need to be sharpshooter to accomplish that, by the way.

Piercing projectile makes it possible to get tons of kills just with a single bolt.

Oh look, an epeen thread by nutter even if he'd never admit...

And lvl0 is not no discount. Lvl0 is 10% discount. And honestly how can you go through an entire wave (blagging how you finished overall on the 2nd highest kills) and somehow not be able to afford a

The game is abit to easy with the xbow...quite funny to think about it actually, a rocket launcher hit wont kill em, but a small arrow through the half metal head is a single shot.

*chuckle*

Once again, it appears I am taking the side of the original poster in defiance of all else.

Yes, to a certain degree it is skill. To prove this (and partially due to my boredom), I wiped all my level 6 perks. It isn't hard to out-gun players whose perks are higher than me when they haven't a clue as to what they should be doing instead of what they actually are doing.

However, there are situations where having a lower perk level is a liability. While one's skill can sufficiently bolster performance, having the perk bonuses eventually becomes a necessity, not merely a reward.

Really want to see this happen, but I've already suggested it till I'm blue in the face :)

Two thumbs fresh! :)

I fail to see the point of this thread other then to reiterate something that all good players know already anyway.

It seems to me like a very roundabout attempt at boosting your ego and bragging about your skill when people start to refute your original post.

and fyi the game currently is not balanced, so yes it is the xbow.

Except I wasn't using the m14 and I was playing on a team with a lvl 6 using the aforementioned m14. And a couple aa12s. And throw in a couple m32s and m79s as well. And I still outkilled 4 of them, with a 2 level penalty.

Piercing projectile makes it possible to get tons of kills just with a single bolt.

Yeah, if you can get tons of them to line up in a straight line. And they all happen to walk on irregular ground so all of their heads line up. And the specimens from the other directions don't attack so the shot can be lined up. So yeah, tons of kills.
