Im calling Killing Floor gritty because its gritty in comparison to ****ing L4D or Dead Island, and is thus a Horror game, but for the sake of argument Killing Floor ill just call it a survival co op and the music is to build suspense such as in 28 days later with its loud *** music.

And to the whole "they're clones and you're saying realism wut?" Yes we have science fiction enemies but why must the realism in the game be entirely thrown out the window? Why not look at the game from its very basic roots keep it there and build up off of that i.e. Soldiers are thrown at some weird science fiction **** they don't know how to ****ing kill it and have to. Im fine with limitless amounts of fucing assault rifles, handguns, SMGs, Rocket Launchers, etc etc, just what the **** do we need dual wielding for? You would never ever ****ing see that except in a god damn movie and looks absolutely ****ing silly. Give us M1911s, USPs and P226s just what the **** do we need some Rambo soldier ****? If we can dual wield pistols can we dual wield katanas?? Is this what the game is going to where players can Dual Wield Katanas and Guns and what then throw shurikens and deploy turrets? Keep the game simple and don't put in ridiculous ****ing ****. if the game is so ****ing ridiculous to everyone why the **** make it anymore ridiculous?

What's ****ing ridiculous is that you do not deign to spell out your cursewords (you'd rather self-censor), yet it seems like you actually curse more than anyone else I've seen in this forum.

Someone else has already asked, but I think you ignored them, so I'll add another plea. If you are unwilling to curse, please, please just don't curse at all. It makes your posts difficult to read.

Back to the main topic:

Popular ideas consisted of different implentations: Changing the stats around so they're suitable to be totally off-perk, creating an entirely new pistol-focused perk, creating a range of pistols to be suited to different individual perks, giving different perks different bonuses to the existing pistols, making pistol proficiency an odd "side-perk" that everyone had on them at all times, etc etc.

Odd that you had mentioned that you didn't like that handguns were basically sharpshooter weapons and you would have preferred them to be fitting sidegrades for all classes...yet you immediately got excited with the mention of the gunslinger perk lol.

At any rate, I'm fine with the pistol emphasis on one perk, but I really like the suggestion of giving different perks different bonuses. I think it would be neat, and somehow it makes it more exciting to me than just straight up having different handguns in the store intended for different perks.

It would mean that the firebug can't use Gun X for the advantages that he enjoyed when using Gun X as a sharp.

I doubt this would happen, but that'd be kind of neat to me. Pistol A might have fire effects a la the mac-10 for firebug, but maybe have significantly less ammo but have some sort of stunning ability for support, scope for sharp, etc.

It's actually part of the forums that you can't write out curse words. Automatic censoring etc.

I don't mind duel weilding so long as its nothing bigger than pistols or mini SMG's. Dat badass look. ;)

Really? No ****ing way.

Edit: Wow, I never noticed that. My bad, KingJoker. I alter my plea to: can you curse less. XD

I think offperking pistols or giving different perks unique bonuses to the pistols are the best solutions, but I think anything is better than letting the sharpshooter have them.

With them, the sharpie becomes a bit too flexible. Not only is he a very good damage-dealer to singular targets, but he's also given considerable support in trash control.

Comparing this to L4D and Dead Island...wh-...REALLY? L4D has far more 'gritty horror' in it than KF because it actually puts some seriousness in itself with the characters (SOME), Dead Island is even more Grittier despite being bugged beyond belief, what with people crying, covered in their own loved ones blood, the howling, etc.

Then you got Killing Floor where the soldiers...joke. They don't seem to hint any fear whatsoever, they don't even seem to take the entire thing seriously with each of their lines. The Zeds are slow, and not too intense as the others unless some idiot pissed of 3 scrakes in one sitting or 2 fleshpounds into rage mode.

Call it Co-Op survival, yes. It's what it is honestly, but Gritty Horror? Hell no, not even close.

"build suspense with its loud *** music", he says.

Death Metal isn't supposed to make you cower in the corner in fear of danger. It's supposed to make you feel courageous and bloodthirsty and totally psyched.

Listening to the Killing Floor soundtrack you should be cleaving something in two with a fire-axe while screaming "YYYEEEEEAAAH" or wasting a LAW rocket on the last clot of the wave JUST BECAUSE. :D

"Suspense is a crucial characteristic of the thriller genre. It gives the viewer a feeling of pleasurable fascination and excitement mixed with apprehension, uncertainty, anticipation, tension, and anxiety. These develop from unpredictable, mysterious and rousing events during the narrative, which make the viewer or reader think about the outcome of certain actions. It also gives the person the so-called "on-edge" feeling." Wikipedia

No. I don't care. Death Metal is not "suspenseful", ever.

Killing Floor isn't a bloody Nancy Drew mystery, it's a bullet-riddled, blood-gushing action game.

Unless you play Hell on Earth with a bunch of pansies who insist on huddling together in the same fricken' shoe closet. Then it becomes the murder mystery of "which one of my teammates would I murder first if friendly fire was on?"

Your posts are really annoying to read. I'm not the kind that finds cursing offensive, but please use it in moderation. It doesn't help to get your point across more. Using them in excess like you do just makes you look immature.

Anyway, I agree that the music used in-game is far from suspenseful. It's used more to make you feel "pumped up" and get into the action. Personally, it's a bit on the slow end for my taste in metal. It feels more like metalcore, but I can't really say since I'm not a music buff.

If a game is to convey a feeling of suspense through music, there are much better instruments than typical metal instruments to use. There needs to be a sense of dissonance in the sound, and the music used in game definitely doesn't do that.

bah, i still believe the music is suspenseful, im not saying its American McGee or ****ing Jaws, but none the less it builds tension, adrenaline or not and it's futile to even argue over music and what emotions it personally pulls from us...

and the cursing is just me, if it makes me seem immature so be it i'm not looking for friends, and this is just how i talk.

how does whether people are acting like melodramatic babies who want everyone to live forever or acting like men and joking about their situation change how 'gritty horror' it is?

men joke about in combat and life threatening situations all time to lighten mood and raise spirits, especially british. aswell as being normal for men it is typically british cultural thing, especially when in combat, that is one of qualities that many units consider important for a person when recruiting is if they have a sense of humor in the worst situations and enjoy banter.

when british had positions of afew hundred men on a hill and being charged by human waves of endless thousands of chinese soldiers until overrun, did them talking about it casually with americans on the radio giving the americans the impression that large attacks weren't happening make it any less gritty and horrorfying a situation?

if you can't laugh about having your limb blown off or a unexpected fleshpound tearing someone in half then shouldn't be a soldier that would be alive in such a situation.

those babies don't even exist in that world anymore to be sitting around feeling sorry for themselves and crying about people dying, that is how gritty the world is.

o i didnt look at dates, i had a bunch of threads open and assumed this was one on front page lol
No one with knowledge takes musket or xbow users seriously.

And you shouldnt.
what? xbow is almost must have for ss on higher difficulties. dual pistols clean up weak zeds and xbow for sc and fps
