How to get into the beta?

Dont you guys think when the big beta comes out with 10.000-20.000 keys they should start giving them first to the active forum members, people who are really reading the forums on a daily basis, and then the rest to the keys should be given to the rest....or maeby they can say log into the tripwire forums and get your self a beta key, that should bring in house more players.

And then watch in horror as smacktards convene and start creating masses of accounts and spamming the forums with useless banter, only with the hopes of getting a key ...

Buddy there is no doubt that the game will be epic, but people need to know that,BETA testing is a type of promotion before release date sales...

They might be a small group of developers comparing to the other big boys out there, but they need to hit the jack pot on this one!!! We all have to eat brother....

Beta =/= Demo
This. Betas are only DEMOS for money grubbing companies like EA and Activision, and user feedback has very little impact on actual changes made.

Tripwire actually wants feedback which means they need people who won't just spam bad press about the game in its beta version. They want people who will TEST and care enough to actually give constructive feedback.

The big beta will probably be somewhat like a demo from the players point of view. At that point the game is probably nearly finalized and went through a lot of testing already.

Usually big beta's including the COD and BF ones are to actually test things, but actually test things that require people to primarily just play the game.

For pc games think of finding weird hardware software combinations that perhaps do not work. And making sure the software is stable, and that for instance servers can cope with the player amounts.

Finding out what people like and dislike about the game and slightly focussing marketing towards that. Loads of people will try it out and share their experiences with other people on all forums with big betas. So if the game is fun its a great marketing tool to get people to try and play the game before release.

Through stat tracking seeing how balanced certain maps are. Seeing how quickly people progress through different perks and making sure that all perks work.

Probably the last part is actually the reporting of bugs once its at this phase, and a lot of things found might not make it into the first release either. As once you created a fix for a certain bug it needs to be fully tested again etc.

On facebook.

The Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad Steam Page is now up. Go add the game to your wish lists! For those participating in the new steam beta, don't forget to recommend it to friends as well.

As a heads up, the release date and system requirements are not yet final and are subject to change.

I want?

Its about the new steam client beta (find it on steam in steam>settings>beta participation), looking over the notes there is a games 'recommended your you' list and at the bottom of that page there are friend recommendations (Masta recommends Killing Floor; it is a "Good game" :p) and the option to add your own. You can't seem recommend games you don't yet own, so no recommendations for ROHOS :(.

I tend to agree with Zets that the BIG Beta will be for testing things that are much more broader based like the unlock and achievement systems and how the master servers will react to a bigger player influx.

Of course if there are any major bugs that surface because of having lots of players testing the game then it can only help the final product be an even better one and a big beta will certainly help TWI focus the game on the things players are liking whilst helping them either polish or remove those that are simply not working.

It also helps with what may need to be patched a later date as big player counts usually throw up some weird stuff as well in a beta test...;)

since no one has seriously answered the question (ok no one on the first page.) i think i will even if hes trolling. :D

family and friends beta: requirements are you related or a friend of any of the developers. or possibly a friend of a friend. if not than you probably won't get in on this.

open beta: it will be on steam on the ro2 page and you just download it. then play and enjoy. this is the most likely way they'll do the open beta. :) however they have to release it first. :IS2:

I guess the "big Beta" is what we used to call in the gamma phase. Release Candidate is another term that comes to mind. I think most things released today are gamma ready.....:)
