So, we all know that there will be only 2 tanks at release of the game, because each tank was realized with incredible accuracy both inside and outside and this take a looot of time.

But.....is even true that playing with only 2 tanks is not the best...maybe this isn't a problem for combined arms map, where they are only support units, but on the big tanks battle maps? 32 perfectly equal tanks against other 32 perfectly equal tanks?

So, Ramm said generically that the two tanks will be the Panzer IV and T-34. From the images and from the videos we can suppose that probably the two tanks will be:

-for Germans, one of the first Panzer IV with long-barrel gun (75mm L/43), then the Panzer IV F2 or the Panzer IV G.
-for Russians the T-34 with hexagonal turret, the T-34/76 mod. 1942.

So, how to increase the number of tanks without months and months of work?

Easy: adding the T-34/76E mod. 1942 and the Panzer IV F2/G with applied armor plates.

This is really simple to do, cause the tanks just need only some new textures (low number) and new frontal armor plates (i think it will not take many time for modelling them). Also, this is realistic 'cause Germans really produced some Panzer IV G with additional 30mm armor plates on front-hull armor (http://www.onwar.com/tanks/germany/data/pz4g.htm) and Russians sometimes randomly applied additional armor plates (20mm?) on front-hull armor of their T-34 series.

In this way we will have 4 tanks instead of 2 and this will give a little more variety to the game with a minimum work (the additional armor plates were applied only on the frontal hull armor!).

What do you think about?

Since there is player customization and weapon customization. Personally I think that stuff like this could perhaps end up in vehicle customization.

So a higher level tanker will get a shinier new edition of the same tank.

My preference goes out to no perks achievements etc, but I think that something like this could reasonably happen.

Idea and suggestion thread guys.

I don't see the point in adding 2 of the same vehicle with slight modifications. Might as well just have 2 up armored tanks, mappers won't use inferior ones if there are slightly superior versions.

I'm all for having a copy of the P4 with the low velocity gun if it can be modelled properly.

Hell, it's a quick and cheap way of adding another tank - and it's a specialist one at that, so it would be pretty damn useful in combined arms maps.

Vehicle customisation is confirmed?

I listened to that latest podcast and didn't hear anything about vehicle customization.

Personally customizing the tank is something that i find unrealistic and in CoD-style. One thing is customizing the color, another one is customizing the specs of tank.

I don't understand. In RO there are Panthers and Tigers but not all the players use them, many players take the other vehicles available, like the Panzers IV and III and Stug....the same for russians....not all players take the IS-2 'cause there isn't a sufficient quantity for all the players....

If they put 10 T-34/76E and 22 T-34/76 then most of the players must take the normal T-34/76. The same for Germans.

The 76.2mm F-34 can take out Panzer IV G at every distance (except very very high distance or really good angolation) and the same for the 75mm L/43 of Panzer IV that can take out the T-34/76 at every distance. So, adding the two variations with more armour will need a flanking operation to take out the enemy tank and will give more strategy to the battle.

I'm all for having a copy of the P4 with the low velocity gun if it can be modelled properly.

I thinked this too, but maybe (probably) the internal part of the tank aren't exactly the same of Panzer IV G, so they must do bigger work. This is why i only proposed the same version of existing tanks with applied armor plates.

I'd be interested in learning more about that; perhaps someone from TWI can comment on how different the designs were between the two?

If it's just a case of tweaking a few minor things and changing the barrel, then that would be awesome and make such an inclusion (perhaps in a DLC pack) likely.

All i said was when you have player customization and weapon customization, having vehicle customization probably isn't that different. Especially as everybody spawns in his tank, it could be easier to see customization.

personally I hope that for instance on top of the tank skin there is a layer showing a tank number. So every player will have his individual tank number.

This way later on you will recognize a player by the number on his tank.

?

Is not like OST where you spawn as infantry-crew-member and then run to take a tank?

Nope you spawn inside it. That way nobody will end up in the spawn without a tank with everybody driving off. Beside that actually entering a tank took quite a bit of additional time.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm sure some crafty modders could apply this.

For a bit more variation with a lot more work, if we see the Panzer III implemented as the expected light tank, they could make a Stug out of it, since it's the same chassis. Of course the whole gun would have to be remodeled.

But, in this way every one can take the tank that he wants (the best tank available) or there will be a list like this? (based on OST):

-Tiger (1/2 available)
-Panther (0/2 available)
-Pz IV (6/8 available)
-Pz III (6/6 available)
-Stug III (2/4 available)

and then you have to choose the tank whereby you want to spawn?

Otherwise i cannot imagine how it can works.....

I was replying to Mandead, not that you were implying customization one way or the other :D

I assume once there are multiple vehicles that you can select what tank you spawn in similarly to how you select class. Perhaps the new tanks that will be added later will be heavy tanks so you'll get an elite tank class.

Ok, and there will be even "minimum level" requirement for each tank?

Btw, i would like very much an answer by Tripwire about this thread......

While the P4 low velocity gun would be cool, and I would certainly love to see it, I'd like to see the StuG with assault gun first.
