How perks are going to actually work?

So reading the dev chat log, I realized most of the hard details about KF's game play, I know from reading wiki articles and references people make to the mod. This quote from Ramm:

The perks work a bit different here. Aside from not giving "griefing" perks like Martyr , the perks are very specialized by class. You can gain new abilities such as the ability to see invisible Zeds at close range, not be able to be grabbed by certain Zeds, etc. You also get better prices on weapons linked to your class as you level up.

Sounds a little different from how the mod was described. So do you choose a class, get the achievements, and unlock the various perk bonuses for your class as you go? The KF mod sounded like you just picked the "Medic" perk and got all the benefits listed under it. KF retail sounds a bit different. Also, price reductions on weapons as you level up? How exactly does that work? Where are the 'points' for leveling coming from? I thought it was just "get x achievements related to a kind of play style (medic, headshots, melee, ect...) and get the master perk.

Thoughts? Clarification?

You gain experience in all the perks simultaneously based on how you play, what weapons you use, and what enemies you kill. You can only select one at a time during a wave and can only change it between waves. So its a bit more flexible then a standard class system and you could potentially use and earn experience in all types of different perks throughout a full game session.

Also when you max a perk out you get to spawn with the weapon that it favors without having to buy it.

Think of it like you start with a choice of possible "career paths" and you can choose one to use at any given time. If you perform the requirements for that chosen perk, it will unlock more speciliazed and greater bonuses. What's important to remember is you can still meet the requirements to "level up" perks you aren't actively using.

ex. I am a firebug so i get a bonus with my thrower. But i feel like using a shotgun this round, and welding stuff. I'll actually be boosting my Support class. It's kind of a waste i guess, but players can mix and match how they like. it's part of what makes KF strategic :D

Beat me to it dave ;)

Ah thanks. So does the weapon cost reduction relate to your currently equipped perk? How is the reduction measured? Like x achievements per y class equals z% reduction, something along those lines?

Yup. The higher level of your perk, the better discount on your "favored" weapon, so that you can get get your hands on it quicker

I'm interested to know that as well. From the dev chat, they said you can only earn your perks in official, not custom games. Can we still use the perks we unlock in custom games?

No perks when there is a mutator sounds ****ty.

Sure that mutator could make you earn them faster.. but bleh :(
Should be able to use them even if you can't level them.

As with the Red Orchestra system, we will have a White-List of mutators that will still allow you to gain Perks when they're running.

If a mutator isn't on the White List or you are running a custom game, you will still be able to use your Perks, just not advance in them.

In short, you will be able to globally use your Perks(online, offline, custom games, crazy mutators, etc.), it's only progressing/advancing your Perks that is not allowed in anything unofficial.
