What's wrong with $50? that is the standard price for all AAA production games, which RO:HoS is, this is not an indie budget title like the first one was, but has cost them a lot of money to make, so i expect it to sell for $50 like any other big budget PC title.

But we might be the only one's who realize it's a AAA title right now.

Which will probably heavily depend on the kind of marketing the game will get close to release. It probably won't be like cod, but if it gets discussed a lot on forums and gets show time in reviews it might have a chance.

As "real" pc games are quite rare I think TWI stands a good chance at creating a nice hype machine.

Well, RO2 is still lacking in popularity and commercials. Not so many people know about Red Orchestra and Tripwire. If it's gonna be AAA title it has be sold good. It was hilarious when some guys on The Ball chat been asking Yoshiro and other TWI guys "how about RO2, why you don't make it". Hello?

I hope in proper period time before premiere, RO2 gets great and honest reviews in magazines.

if they tell everyone about it months before launch all you will get it tones of people wanting to get "early beta" and coming the the forums begging for it. When the beta is out it will get a lot more attention.

we all know they will do a free weekend and will advertise. plus many mnay people know about killing floor so all they need to do is bring up that, maybe give a copy to people that preorder for there friends. Or perhaps people that own it get RO2 cheaper (that should make lots of people buy it)

I am pretty damn sure that they will use a similar technique to what they did with The Ball and the Steam Group. Want some free stuff? Invite more people!

4pack @ steam with 10-25% discount would be reasonable.

I don't think RO is compatible with the average "casual" gamer, it might attract more hardcore and history oriented gamers who are tired of COD, but now everybody....

I think you are "unfortunately right", RO has had very decent reviews and continued to be in the top 10 list of shooter games of some PC Gaming magazines. (PC Games in Ger to name one) despite this so far the fanbase and community seems and seemed rather small.
As well as for ex. the ROLadder is regardless of its high quality in comparison with other tournaments and leagues rather petite too.
But on the other hand to be honest, I don't really would like to have the same average crowd playing HoS or RO that plays CODMW.

The game is still in Alpha last we saw, it's too early for a marketing push now, that comes later, when it's getting clouse to release, and it's in an RC state that can be shown.

Ramm has said there will be marketing for RO2, no TV ads though, because thouse are just insanely expensive, but they will spend money to get the word out there apparently.

The biggest marketing for RO will probably the massive public beta.

A lot of people that do not like to buy a game will try out a beta. If they give beta keys to some gaming websites that gives them show time on those websites and communities resulting people playing that game and sharing their experiences.

If a lot of those people end up liking the game they will talk about it in the social networks such as forums. Especially if TWI does some good changes to the beta based on community input a lot of people can start liking it. So I guess that it will be really important if people can pick the game up and immediately "get it" and see why the game is nice.

If tripwire for instance got special editions of Heroes of Stalingrad with a RC IS2 that fires bb guns, then it might spark reviewers a bit more. Its more fun that getting a new xbox 360 bundled every day when Microsoft releases new games :p.

Word of mouth has been the main method of TWI's marketing in the previous games with great success for the low to no marketing budget the game had. If twi manages to use money to actually stimulate the word of mouth advertising in a way then that probably gives the best bang for buck.

Correct me if im wrong but I dont think TW have confirmed a "massive public beta" last I read it would be like 20,000 keys and that to me is not a real public beta. MOH was a public beta (that i think failed as bad as the game).

I think the beta will get alot of attention but the real thing will be the free weekend/s.

i really dont think they should have an all out beta, you will just get tones or people treating it like a demo and craping about little things or saying its to hard. before you give it to everyone it needs to be fully polished or people will judge it to soon.

I didn't enjoy that beta but I will say the game is great fun. The fact that my mates and I keep IM something like "Brilliant game" or "Great fun" after nearly every round implies that it must be doing something right. I think Gametrailers review 8.2/10 was very fair. A lot of reviews just suck up to CoD and call it a clone, dismiss it immediately and mark it unfairly.

Anyway back on topic. If you call yourself Indie then you cannot charge more than $20. So I'll pay that for a MP game with 8 maps and 5 gametypes. TWI need to think of a way to reach out to people not familair with TWI games so they do not appear as an indie overcharging for his goods if they go higher like $25.

The problem with a public beta is who is going to provide the servers? If you do an open beta that's going to need 100's of servers to cope with the free loading horde over the weekend. Plus the game has not been stress tested for that many players. Look at how many indie games go kaput on free weekends or crazy a$$ sales.

I'd also be interested to see how they plan to market it "Hey's it's a WW2 shooter" is 5 years too late.

killing Floor did fine at $20 I think its safe to say this will be alot more polished. When you rember how kf is compared to the amount of work put into RO2 it would seem fine to cost more.

when you say indie I think... world of goo, lugura. yes tripwire are independant but that does not mean the game has to be dirt cheap to sell.

i think the fact that most people that will buy the game that dont evevn know about it yet, dont even know TW is independant. Its on UE3 so its graphics will not make it seem cheapo to them.

i really dont see a full public beta helping anyone, free weekend on established servers after the balancing and bugs are worked out id the way to go for the average consumer

TWI is an independent developer, but I doubt they fall into the "Indie" category anymore.

RO2 seems to be an expensive project, and while the studio is not big, it had quite enough people working on it for a considerable amount of time. Plus they are going to do a big marketing push at the end, or so they said.
