how much money goes to Steam?

does anyone know the cut that steam takes off the games that are sold through steam?? if any...

That information is confidential. But the ammount of money Tripwire see's from Steam Sales are much larger then a traditional publishing deal.

Well impulse takes 20%-30%. I imagine steam takes 30-40%.

With retail, I think on average the publisher takes like 85% royalties? But they paid up front to have to game made, paid for advertising, etc. Generally the devs only get a % after a game reaches a certain number of sales and it's a small %. I could be wrong on the numbers here.

I have read from an indie devellopper that they took 40 % . But to their publisher. So the developpers get even less.

So here it might be more than 40 %. I won't be surprised if it's 60 %.

Valve is awesome in that, they'll trade 25% of their profit margin for the developer's new born babies. Get 'em while they're young, as they say.
