As someone considering buying the game I find these honest postings of people's opinion of THE GAME valuable indeed, even if they say they find the graphics/animation disappointing. What really saddens me is reading so many vitriolic statements (flames) towards new RO players, simply because they have been honest about their disappointment with the purchase. It gives me an impression many in the RO community may be abrasive, dogmatic and immature.. and therefore not a game community I would want to be part of. I don't doubt many love this game, but I want to determine if I will have a good chance of loving it before forking out the hard-earned $$$. Honest reviews help. Graphics and animation ARE important to many people, without being the be all and end all either. As the good little FAQ & forum reading peanut I am, I am obviously holding out for a demo. The quality of the 3rd person animation worries me most personally. Yes the Unreal engine 2.5 is already aging, I can forgive that. But how long is it since a quality game did NOT use motion capture? That is something I am much less confident of being able to overlook. I am amazed tripwire could not have aquired some decent motion-captured animations cheaply..and adapted them..

Jesus Christ, will you guys stop whining and just enjoy the game? If you can't enjoy a game unless it has four-dimensional-aphex-shader-functionality-polygon-enhancing-TRX4-D-super-sw33t-ultra-techn0l0gy, you shouldn't be playing games at all.

lol, nice one. nice shiney graphics are like empty promises. or, more apropos, like dating a young hottie and thinking she'll always be a young hottie. the reality is, the looks will fade (i.e., you'll get used to them) and if there's no substance underneath, you have nothing.

RO:O is like a nice MILF. :D

Someone hire us a suitable studio, with the relevant equipment for a couple of weeks - probably won't cost much more than a couple hundred thou ;)

If they had "acquired them cheaply and adapted them" they wouldnt have looked ANY better than what is in now...probably worse.

Besides i still prefer them to the frogmen flappy-feet i saw in another WW2 game with 5x the budget a while ago :D

Which one was that with 'frogmen flappy-feet'? I must confess the grenade backflip animations in COD 1/2 are shockingly bad. RO ragdolls seem to be tops.

My main problem is when some idiot plays the game for 5 minutes, then says "the graphics suck, dont buy the game!", and never attempts to rectify the problem. Seems like some people are afraid to play with the graphics settings for some reason... A simple change from D3D9 to D3D fixes the vast majority of the complaints I have heard on the forums and in game.

also heard that using opengl gives better graphics than d3d from a couple of people. If you're going to have to go to d3d you are already loosing the blur effects so you might as well try out opengl.

25 is what i'd pay i at the moment but if they fixed the frame rate issues, za alarm problem, animations other problems i would gladly pay 40 or 50, on a technical side mainly people not getting the game to run properly or not at all it just feels like it needs another month in development other than that i'd gladly give it a classic rating,

Frankly, as I have ended up repeating myself in other threads, we delivered what seen in the publicly available trailers and screenshots. Why people are in any way "stunned" about the graphics in RO:OST is beyond me. Realisitically people, I think the "graphics" are easily bearable- it's just a matter of adjusting your configuration settings so that you can play the game well enough.

2. The enemy cannot shoot and kill me at a short distance: It's harder to kill than real life.

How do you know? Did you ever kill someone or are you just another armchair general?

I personally think it's $14.00.

1. Graphic not good: fuzzy with no details.

2. The enemy cannot shoot and kill me at a short distance: It's harder to kill than real life.

3. Trees and leaves look worse than those in UT2K4: So unrealistic and cheap.

I am an avid first-shooter gamer and I thought something great might come with this release based on my experience many months ago with the mod. It's been a long long time since the introduction to the mod and the game didn't seem to get evolved. What did they do significantly more in the retail package than the mod?

THATS GOT BE A JOKE!!!! RIGHT TELL ME IT IS PLEASE FFS!
I am sorry that YOU think youve wasted your money but personally i would have paid
