Pentium D 820 2x2.8GHZ
Intel D945PSN board with latest drivers/bios
Antec 450W PSU in sonata 2 case (more than enough)
OCZ 512mb DDR2 (not enough, but I have ro running on a separate HDD and another one for the swap (both sata2)).
asus 8600GTS @ 740x1014 with whatever drivers
X-fi XteremeMusic with latest drivers
1024x768 or 1280x1024 - dont make any difference, I get 12-20 fps just by looking at the wall on an empty server.

Win XP SP2 with latest updates and clean install

The problem is nvidia drivers, since my ATI card works great and produces very nice fps for its potential. Moreover, HL2 mods lag too. Even FofF mod at 1024*768 with all setting set to low and DX7....
i can tell you right now that the reason all your games stutter is the severe lack of system ram. one gigabyte is bare minimum these days. i missread, i thought you had an 8800. the 8600GTS isn't the fastest card, but should play RO smoothly with the right settings and more ram.

Another thing that will hold you back in RO is the fact you have a Pentium D cpu. they are notoriously bad gaming cpu's. you could get a lower end Intel Core 2 duo for cheap that would totally kill that P4 and increase your frame rates majorly! the Unreal Engine that RO uses is very cpu dependant! get more ram, and maybe upgrade that cpu, and you'll be golden :)

Yeah I know this cpu isn't great but it's dual core and can handle all the games I play with no problem (if I use an ATI card, of course). Besides, the problem of low fps is present with the Nvidia card only and in ANY game I play (RO + HL2 Mods) - having said that, some of the mods, like Pirates Vikings and Knights II or FofF don't use even 60% of my ram (250-300mb at most). So again, it's not a ram problem, neither it's a cpu related issue. The problem is Nvidia hardware/drivers that are falsely advertised under the The Way It's Meant To Be Played slogan...

I never had any problems with Nvidia.
In fact I never buy ATI again, because they lack support for linux drivers.
Well it's a bit off-topic, just want to show you there might be other "truths" too.

I have an 8800GTX 2gigs of ram and E6600 core duo and have no kind of stutter what so ever except what i think would be internet lag when some players seem to skip around the map crazily..All in all a smooth experience with everything on max and 16x aa and AF on too. I do however seem to be getting disconnected from servers right now 5-6 times tonight already..dunno what the probelem is for the servers are still up when i return to the browser window.

Same Problem here. Frames per Second are dropping down to 20 - 40 often

Geforce 8800 Ultra
q6600 (4 x 2.4 Ghz)
2 GB DDR2

--> The funny thing i noticed - it is equal which Level of Detail has been chosen. Frame dropps happen with minimum and maximum details...

I run on...

AMD 64x2 5600+ 3.0Ghz OC'd
Kingston DDR2 667MHz - 2 GHz
Asus GeForce 8600GT Silent 256MB

everything is smooth, I don't have a stutter or anything, games runs perfect with 75 FPS, never dipping below 69 FPS.

I have the latest driver from http://nvidia.com

Im really getting annoyed by the 88-stuttering. Strange thing that it is only happening in certain areas on certain maps (Danzig-Shops, Kessel-AssemblyHall), but it reached a point where it really effects my gameplay, especially on clan-matches....Ive tried several differant drivers and several differant settings (AA, AF, etc etc), nothing worked. I just wonder when I

I have a 8800 GTS 512 and i gonna buy a Ati again... Image quality just s*cks! I mean without any AA or AF i have like over 350fps but we all know that specially AA is required to make precise long range shots. (otherwise you wont see a helmet as it disappears within the jagged edges)

My System:
Win XP64
GA-X38-DS5
E8400 @default clock
4gb RAM
8800GTS 512

Without any AA or AF -> around 300fps @1280*1024 all ingame detail on max.

The Problem is: as soon i turn Supersampling 4x4 on (an this one of the only settings in which i get a image quality that matches that of my old X1950XT (!!!)) The Problem though is, with that high AA settings my framerate just drop down to 30-40... With 3x3 Supersampling its "ok" have around 40-80fps depending on the situation and viewpoint.

Yesterday i put my >old< X1950XT in my new rig and tested a bit. I was astonished! With 6x AA and 16x AF i had a wonderful image quality and around 120fps!

-> I'm NOT, i repeat: i'm NOT an ATI Fanboy!! Nvidia might have the better and newer technology...blabla, jadejaddaeda, whatever.. but in my opinion: the image quality (specially the AA quality in the distance is, on nvidia cards HORRIBLE!). And what do i care about "oh so new and special AA mode and better filtering technology? I just look at the picture presented and what i see is following: Nvidia with its shiny special

well, my 8800 GT can run RO on 16xAA and 16xAF, Vsync on and everything else on max....if only this stuttering wouldnt happen. Its not that the card cant run the game on max, there are maps that run wonderfull on these settings without any stuttering, but as said, these certain spots on certain maps....

EDIT: I remember I read somewhere that when you get rid of all the weapons you carry (nades included), the stuttering disappears. I just tested that on Danzig and it seem to "work". I had no stuttering in the same shop I was warping around before....strange :s

Right, now go test that on other trouble spots & maps to see if the rule applies.
Someone will look into it, I am sure, if need be.
Just check going down the steps from outside into the wine cellar (Danzig).

Thanks...

done. The wine cellar actually was one of the worst areas.

Now, when I dropped my weapons (including nades), NO stuttering at all even in the wine cellar. So the issue must have something to do with the 1st person weapon models. I dont know if thats old news, but I really really pray for a fix of this issue....

There was a Windows fix for X2 AMD processors as well as something supplied by AMD to optimize.
I not sure if this has been included in Windows updates ( I doubt it because not all run AMD).
Have you applied these.
I am not aware of the current situation, coz me gots Intelligence installed already:p.

I would like to know before I start knocking at doors.
Thanks...51...

There is a Hotfix for those cards on windows vista 32 and 64.

This is the spanish Nvidia oficial page, but take a look to the links and use them if you have those cards and you have troubles.

After my last format, I forgot to add those fix, and I had a really poor performance.

This is the spanish link:

http://www.nvidia.es/object/windows_vista_hotfixes_es.html

(If you dont have SLI, choose the second one).

Or use directly this link to microsoft solution.

Hope to help.
