I'm not saying not having cover. But generally cover would mostly be to the side of the roads. That berlin map for instance often had destroyed building and rubble from that partially next to the road giving cover. But the lion-share of the road was still empty, requiring caution when crossing.

So my issue with cover is not that it exists but that the placement is highly unnatural. Especially the repetition of cover placed right in the middle of roads. There can be cover without the entire street being filled with things.

Next to that cover works both ways, it doesn't only help the attackers, the defenders use all the cover just as well.

Basically what i want is things to be closer to this

So you might have a vehicle stranded somewhere, loads of rubble dirt and cover. But you still have the biggest patches of the road simply clear. Roads should generally be a dangerous open places that people should try to avoid.

Sorry guys, there wont be less cover in ROS and there is a simple reason.
BALANCE, especially since I am pretty sure that they are targeting ROS for a wider audience.

With much less cover you would have 2 choices when you attack on a map as a rifleman:

1. Get SMGed in a building
2. Get sniped on the street

The cover is there for balancing reasons, and that is good because defending in RO is already easymode as it is.

Yes, so much cover all over the place makes the gameplay very stale

You mean stale is in that you cannot snipe noobs the entire game without getting in danger?

did you even read Zet's post?

Defending now is so easy because there is that much cover, as those covers get filled with enemies, allowing more snipers, and slowing down the advance a lot.

Cover works both ways. Krasnyi attack hasn't gotten any easier with the cover. If anything the petrol yard is harder to attack nowadays. And if you spawn at central yard you can easily be locked into spawn.

What I want is that to win both rifleman and smgs need to work together. Where rifleman clear the street, while smg's push up. That's what made berlin such a great map in my eyes. Its the ability to give both smgs one of the best close combat experiences, and rifleman great long range fighting.

If anything open streets makes it easier for a rifleman if they happen to fight there, as the forte of bolt action rifleman is accuracy and range. However open streets make it easier to fire at longer range for smgs as well, as people are less concealed behind cover and thus easier to hit when you fire less accurate (I know a paradox :p).

I agree that the urban maps should be closer to the real scale of those cities they are meant to represent (i.e. width of roads, spaces between buildings, design and infrastructure etc.), but at the same time preserve a playable environment. That idea about large open roads with cover on the sides is a good example.

The main aim is to have a map that works and is dynamic as Fed suggested. Alternative cap zones is a definite must. So the defenders need to have scouts that will alert them if the attackers are all attacking a specific objective. You can then have tactics that are meant to confuse the defenders about which objective the main force is heading for etc.

Danzig has really ruined RO, all by itself somehow.

Seriously, I hated that stupid map in the RO mod, and I hated it more when it appeared in the retail game. IT'S NOT A GOOD MAP! It's small, it's cramped, there's nade spam, spammy smgs, and death after death after death, with very little tactical variation.

WHY are people so enamored with this map? Now when I load up RO, the main full server is usually running Danzig ... what a disappointment.

One could easlily fill up some servers with all the people here disliking the 24/7 Danzig servers or the
Danzig map. I do like the map as i like more maps. Do i suffer the CoD effect ? No !!
I like variation in maps. Close combat next map more open. And so on.

To tell the map doesn't require no tactic is nonsense. There is nades spam indeed but
when you know that its easy to wait the first nade wave before your attack.

Its so easy to come on and tell a map is stupid. Appearantly quite some people
disagree and play it. They all suffer the Cod Effect ?

I have played often on the two of these 24/7 Danzig servers. One of them
I thought it was named Thick as Thieves. With two good teams working together yo have your tactics.

Beside that llast time i checked I could pick enough non Danzig 24/7 servers
to play a good game.
