Meh, I'd rather not see 1:1 carbon copy ports unless they become entirely new, different maps.

So if someone decides to port Berlin but also make it more like Kriegstadt, go for it.

i rarely post, but please, this! kaukasus is the best map in RO imo.


Well.......on 50 player servers Kaukasus is a freaking horror map for the Axis.

Unless Axis has much better players and tactics they are screwed. So the map would have to be redone for 50 players.

The entire problem with modding is that balance is rarely good, sure it is awesome to play with so many people. But you know on some maps you just have no chance and run out of reinf.

What this game needs is more maps like Danzig, so it is not the only map played. RO(Mod) had many maps with the same play style, like Berlin, Jucha, Kopalnia, Warsaw, Donets, Moscow Highway, Konigsberg, etc, etc, etc... and RO(Mod) never had that problem with Danzig back then.

With the release of the stand alone game, things changed. Somehow, those maps disappeared in favor of the large pixel hunting maps.

The existence of the 24/7 Danzig servers, and the fact that they are full, are proof that people prefer that style of urban close quarters gameplay, even if it takes to play the same map over and over again.

I'm not one of those who can stand playing the same map compulsively, but I do like, and miss that style a lot.

That, and the flawed weapon resting/exaggerated swaying of unrested weapons, are the main reasons why I prefer RO(mod) over the current stand alone version.

If the editor of the new game is nice, all RO maps could be translated into ROHOS, at least as custom ones...
That happens in other games, as Bridge of AA3 translated to Insurgency or Office of Counterstrike into INS...

The workflow to build maps for the new engine seemed to be changed.
So porting maps will take more work then alter the old RO maps.
But i'm with stupid so i could be wrong.

If i'm right this will be nice so i don't have to storm the Danzig bridge or
cap the Garage for quite a while.

Good point, I remember after 3 months of the RO release I couldn't see Stalingrad and Odessa anymore......those were so overplayed it wasn't funny anymore.

i guess the perks of being a postman compared to the milkman is that as a government employee, you can consider yourself a para-military force and when your land is invaded!!! :D

Most mod maps offered better range than the current maps :|. In maps that were ported from the mod the streets were filled with sandbags and flipped over vehicles all the open sections were pretty much removed.

Moscow Highway and Berlin offered longer open range than most current maps. (although I admit that Berlin's indoor fighting was ideal for smgs).

But i guess some more small maps could be there, but I hope that there will be more maps with open streets for rifleman. Real long range firing doesn't happen that much on most maps.

A lot of the smaller maps in the mod offered longer and bigger patches of open ground for rifleman. Warsaw was my favourite map to play in clan matches because shooting at the square was ideal for rifleman as people couldn't hide every 5 meters. While it was a typical nade map.

So I would like some variation in size of maps perhaps. But I want more uncompromised grounds in maps. Rather than making everything of a map being good for smgs and rifleman somewhat. Give rifleman long grounds and give smgs buildings.

the thing is that all current RO maps seem too open, for example, a map that should be close quarters like Odessa, has much longer distances than those in Moscow highway, Berlin, Donets, Jucha. But its not exactly the long distances what I'm talking about, its more about the open field... there is just too much open field in this RO.

It made this game loose its original feeling. I would like some of that back in RO:HoS

I'm talking about open fields as well.

Look at krasnyi from the mod and in roost. Or even danzig from the mod and in retail. you'll notice that the mod version had a lot more open terrain. Like in the central yard of krasny you have those piles of wood and sandbags added since the mod. Hedgehog feels a lot more filled up as well. Or look at ponyri from the mod and basovka of today.

In retail you have hardly any big patches of open terrain, there is always a sandbag or a flipped over truck or something else every 5 meters. And that is exactly what I personally don't like about roost.

In berlin you had seriously long range fighting going on at completely empty areas. Think about running from SA to the Reichstag that's one big open piece of terrain. And you could shoot from one end of a street all the way to the other end of a street uninterrupted. Like the street at northern apartments.

That is exactly what I liked the most about the mod over ostfront that there were longer patches of open terrain for rifleman, so you could follow a target a bit and lead and fire. Currently most open spaces got stuff thrown into it blocking the long range rifle sights.

Koitos is a small map but kaukasus was the nr2 most played map and that is one of the biggest long range maps we know now (kaukasus was a lot more balanced as rifles couldn't be rested in the mod). After that berlin another big long range map was the most popular. And krasnyi and stalingrad kessel got more cover added in roost but beside that remained mostly the same.

The biggest reason for there being no 24/7 servers in the mod, is because other servers got popular over that (partially due to the stat track system). And that the community was truly one community made it easier as well.
