Disclaimer:
This discussion is not about discussing whether the game should have a K/D ratio, instead it is about what the best method would be to display said ratio if it would be ingame. This topic is not about discussing whether the game should have a K/D ratio in the scoreboard, or a scoreboard at all.

The actual suggestion:
Rather than simply showing a K/D ratio of say 4 for a person that made 40 kills with 10 deaths during a period of 30 minutes, I say display it as follows:
Step 1: Look at the amount of kills and deaths someone would have in a period of an hour. In the case above that would be 80 kills and 20 deaths.
Step 2: When displaying the kill death ratio show 80:20 in the scoreboard instead of 4 or 4:1. So the quantitative information isn't lost in the ratio.

Reasoning:
1. A general kill death ratio lacks any information about quantity, in a game with respawns one could easily have a 10:1 K/D ratio by having 100 kills and 10 deaths or 10 kills and 1 death. Those situations are not equal and should not be treated as such.
2. By using kills and deaths normalized by the time played, the results of a player that has been playing for 15 minutes can easier be compared to a player that has been playing for 30 minutes. Meaning that if you join in late you are not doomed to be at the bottom of the scoreboard even if you perform fantastically.

Recap:
When displaying a kill death ratio do not remove the quantitative information from the score.
So if someone had 80 kills and 20 deaths in an hour show the K/D ratio as 80:20 instead of 4 or 4:1
