How do you target on the PS4?

I forgot how and I need to target the beacons to knock them out so I can progress.

If you mean target when Tail-whip, it works automatically, the lock-on will move as you go through the slow-mo when you hold down the Tail-whip button. The lock on for enemies is done by clicking the R3 button (press down the right analog stick). Those are both ways for each situation, but the first should be what you need if I'm reading your post right.
