My first thought was that groups were a way to quickly give people a certain amount of access.

For example,
Privates get permission "A and B"
Corporals get permission "A B and C"
Sergeants get permission "A B C and D"

So instead of assigning each Pvt, Cpl, Sgt the individual permissions, you just add each one to the "Privates" usergroup (or "Corporals" or "Sergeants") and they have those permissions as you defined when creating the groups.

But when I do this, the admins actually have no permissions. It seems the groups do absolutely nothing. What am I doing wrong?

groups are actually the only things that work individual settings don't work
like by default you have admins and match setup and everybody will get those settings.

Without xadmin you can not use groups in the first place.

Generally what i do is the following create groups save them. Then create users assigned to a group with nothing special selected and afaik it just works that way. There might be some flag somewhere that determines the preference.

Well thanks for replying Zetsumei, but as I said in my first post, doing that has no effect.

Does anyone know how to get groups to work?
