So I found this thread but it dates back a bit and doesn't much confirmed info. Since the game goes gold some time next week(?) I assume there binoculars question has been settled.

I know they work differently to scopes, you press your eyes right in so there's no peripheral vision to implement and they don't use magnifying lenses like scopes so there's probably none of that 3D misalignment effect.

Are they going to be standard dual-circle zoomed in tunnel vision mode then?

I wish they worked like scopes (3d as opposed to a flat black matte gif thrown over your screen with two circles cut out).

I guess we'll have to wait a week or two for beta to see :).

Why a 3D texture? You don't see anything when using Bino's, it's just black around your eye-lenses.

No, technically you only see out of the binos with a black in the center. So all-in-all the point is moot. Since we have to see something though, why not something attractive? :IS2:

I agree that it isn't really that big of a deal in the overall scheme of things, but the old cut-out binoc shape does give you that horrible 80's MacGyver feel.

It might make sense in old movies and tv shows, as it tells the viewer that they're seeing something through binoculars, but it's not realistic and when you're playing the game, you selected the binocs, you already know you're using them, so it defeats the purpose of the "You are looking through binoculars" shape.

Not that big of a deal though, but in the future it'd be nice to have it a bit more realistic..... and I'd even like it if when you move your view, the lense went a little off angle and you got that little lense blur/crescent/reflection effect in the corner for a second or two..... maybe even on sniper scopes.... that'd be sweet

My concern is more on if a player can just pick it up and use it for themselves. I'm generally a scavenger, especially since my overall ping sucks and I can't use rifles at optimum capacity. Being able to use a binocular that an officer just randomly loses would be useful for me.

If im not mistaken that effect is already implemented on the sniper scopes.

What I hope for is that you can use them with a press of a button, and you don't have to switch to binoculars to use them. I hated it when you had an MG deployed, and you had to undeploy, switch to binocs, find a target, switch to MG, deploy, shoot.

Just make it so you need to press and hold a button to use them. Pretty please!

As for me, I just hope they have some sway incorporated, to remove the possibility of binocular-sniping someone across the map.

You don't use binoculars the same way you use a scope, so the 3d model for bino's wouldnt make any sense.

Correct.

What? Why would the center be black? That's the viewing area. Do you own a binocular, sir? I suggest you go look through one right now.
