So I got into KF hardcore back into 2011-early 2012 but I have no touched it since.

I recently tried it again and checked out the HOE servers and it is always the same thing.

Pick Zerk/Medic and run backwards for 45 minutes..............I fail to see how this is fun. It is not what I think of when I think of killing floor at all.

I've been playing on Hard/Suicidal since all the HOE servers are the same.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah kiting is never fun and can be down right boring.
I'm not sure if you only get this is because your joining public servers, most HoE servers are usually locked because scrubs.

Scrubs can't survive HoE without speed boost and damage reduction, hence it's so popular on pubs. But it's not true that all HoE games look like that.

How no-zerk-allowed kiting offices can be boring?

I played on Dragon's Cave (server name) and we had a full six on the entire time. Nobody kited unless too many people died early on and there was 1 or 2 of us with multiple FP's left. It'd usually be me and another zerker or the medic.

Other than that I found a spot and we stuck to it from that point on for the most part.

It was one of the "Star Wars" themed maps.

I think the funniest part about this post is that this was possible and happening in 2011-2012 but your rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia will filter that out for you.

Zerk kiting is skill. Killing everything with firebug in new balance is noobyness.

You're not a real man unless you camp solo in a chamber with 4 exits using only a knife and a 9mm.

I guess different people like different things...

My idea of a great game is as follows: a group of players holds loosely defined 'spot', focusing on different directions/areas and using their skills to keep zeds at bay. They are mainly self-sufficient but gladly cooperate when needed in terms of providing cover, healing or specific type of zed removal. When something goes wrong and the position cannot be hold any longer, players fall back on safer position or start running. Examples include holding main street in front of the church on westlondon, outside around the manor main building, bioticslab spawn with all doors open, in front of the spawn at foundry ground level, etc. Such game requires competent players that have the will to cooperate, basic communication and trust to watch each others' back.

Unfortunately, even when you know what you're doing, finding yourself among 5 skilled, communicative, friendly and trusting random people is a truly rare instance. So, on pub games players tend to be selfish and embrace most crude, but also the most effective behavior that ensures survival: going zerk and running with no regard for other players, cramming into smallest possible broom closet with only one direction of zeds to come from, etc.

Also, there are a lot of people who play on HoE, but really shouldn't, because it's way above their skill. Those people can't seem even imagine playing on a more open space and desperately cling to 'tactics' that are just sad to watch, like using half-door exploits, putting zerk corks in a doorway with medics behind them, "let's all go supports with aa12", "we need 3 demos and random pipes everywhere", etc. In my opinion it devoids game of its entertainment factor... but well, I dunno, I'm not the fun police.

"let's all go supports with aa12"

My favorite type of game to spectate, can't wait for them to run out of ammo.

Also, if people playing zerks be the "black-sheep," instead of complaining it in the forums. Go sharp, support or a demo to run along with them. Can't keep up? Change to mando or firebad.
Front spawns throttle you? Stick to team or tell them to stop spamming grenades or flare/fire at kited horde.

I played Sharp and Support along with kiting teams and it was great fun. You should have an idea about when to stick close to your team or when to head the next corner to clog possible spawns and voil

The problem is, the mind of a statistical zerk is like that: "Oooops, I didn't break the los and FP is pissed... screw this, I'm running around the corner, let the commando worry about that. Not a big loss compared to my armor. I mean, if he was any good, he would be playing zerk, like all the pros do".

This is my biggest problem with joining zerk matches as a non-zerk. Their mistakes are very likely to get me killed instead of them, which in a sense, encourages me to also go zerk.

The worst are the ones who don't even realize their mistakes, because they are still alive. They are constantly the last ones standing thinking it is because of their own professionalism, rather than their great ability to PK.

I actually enjoy kiting over camping. But I like kiting with a good mix of perks, not just zerks/medic. Kiting as support is very enjoyable, especially in a good group that won't just run at full speed and leave you behind, same as kiting as demo, unless you're in a group that won't try to keep trash off you. I find kiting to be more dynamic and offer more interesting challenges, but unfortunately, I find that many people don't know how to kite properly, and just kill indiscriminately (especially zeds behind you), and you end up running into a powerful group that spawns in front of you. Good kiting requires skill and teamwork.

Now, as to the actual question, most of the Australian servers that I play on, HoE/Suicidal games are camping games, until/unless the position gets overrun, in which case it naturally progresses to kiting. It's rare indeed that I find a single game that is going to be kiting from wave 1. We might get 1 or 2 zerks to start a game with and 1 medic, but the other 3 players won't be those perks, and generally at least 1 of the zerks will change after buying a cheap katana. Also, I find that on the servers I play on, most zerks stay with the group even if camping. So, I dunno???

My view on this is just to pick and choose whatever method I feel like doing at the time, but i usually roll with whatever the team decides to do (mostly because it's harder to die if at least one person is watching your back). That being said though, I believe that if we shall kite, all Berserkers or mostly Berserker + 1 or 2 Medics is a boring team comp pre-7 as there is no variety and few challenges a team like that cannot accomplish, save the occasional player that does not know the mechanics to survive Hell on Earth like the Scrake Stunlock or Fleshpound bait kiting as Medic/Berserker.

Note: Yes, I have died in at least one kiting game where a Berserker was next to me when I was a non-Berserker and got me killed because I had far too low of a body and armor count to take a hit and the Berserker did not try once to bait kite the Fleshpound even when it was safe to do so.

The thing between pubs and teams is that team orientation does not question survival by any means nesecarry, whereas pubs tend to do whatever it means to survive (and or), get kills, even though it is pointless unless you all survive.

Good camp team is like shield with huge spikes, good kite team is like tank that doesent stop on any obstacle.

Zerk kiting team is like headless chickens running with blades whirlding in minefield.

Kiting as Sharpshooter is the most fun I've ever had in KF.

Kiting as Commando in this one suicidal game I played was one of the most fun games I've played in KF. I think we only had one zerker too, and no medics. It was an adrenaline rush.
