All I can say is "WOW". Thank you for posting the pictures. It's a good thing the tank is filled with river water or it would be in floating outside of New Orleans about now.

Some perspective pics:
Standing on the road at the base of the levee directly in front of my house. (Just got home after finishing the wheat harvest)
blue line is the height of the water on the other side of levee. Two and 1/2 more feet to go before crest.

Looking at my house from where I was standing in the pic above.
Blue line is aproximate height of the water on the other side of the levee (maybe really a bit higher).
Orange line is anticipated height of water if it breaks.

This has been very interesting Floyd--thanks for spending the time to show us what you are thinking about as the crest comes. I hope it all turns out well for you!

RE: the yard.....
This is Louisiana, guys. Grass grows prolifically and everywhere. You can't stop it. All one can do is cut it. If its not cut at least every 7 days, it can get out of hand and be a real chore. Best to stay on top of it. Its all the corn, cotton and soybeans I have planted that I hope don't get flooded. I could care less about the friggen grass!

I heard rumors of a vicious sand boil or two in the state park. Though not atypical, it sounds worse than normal. I'm beginning to wonder if I should start packing. If it rains a lot upriver, I know what I'm doing.....

There is a parish meeting tomorrow night. Hopefully, it'll be informative and encouraging.

A little update.

The river crested here today. About a foot below last prediction and about 3 feet below the original projection of 65.
The river will stay here at about 62 ft for the next 4 or 5 days then begin a very slow fall. By the middle of June, we should be in the clear.
Still a long way to go.

Here are some more pics that I lifted from the pilot's facebook page.

Arrow is my house.

The water you see in the ditch on the right is seep water coming from the relief wells.

Thanks.
But its not over with yet. We're just 1/2 way through (barring more rain)

The river won't be down to the old record level until June 6.
Won't be down below flood stage until June 30.
