Edit: Screw this idea, it was a bad idea to show it, instead I'll try to work on a mod for RO2. Beside no one is posting about this anymore.

Please stop posting. Thank you

So you want to give out rifles that come from completely different nations as a reward? I know you don't want people referring to historical accuracy but hell, what exactly are you expecting? There is already enough complaints about inaccuracies from people. I just don't see this going down well at all.

Plus, hero classes already receive a hefty stat boost anyway, no? If people are willing to get all the way to hero levels with a rifle, i'd assume they are quite happy using the rifle that have been using for the last hundred(s) of games as a hero.

Don't get me wrong, i see where you are coming from, but i cannot see much point in more ways than one.

MKB, the STG prototype? Well those suggestions are bolt-action rifles, why not?
(^I had to say it...:))

Give Hero Riflemen pistols, sure they weren't given such from the army, but carrying pistols/revolvers was pretty common for old grunts, given how superior such were in trench warfare settings compared to long bolt-action rifles. Some acquired such weapons by buying them themselves or they would just pick them as loot.

I think a greater effort should be put forth by posters on this forum regarding what is realistic and what is historically accurate. The SMLE and k31 may not have been issue weaponry in either of the forces portrayed in ROHOS, but it would be a simple matter of imagination to create an interesting set of occurrences in which a war hero came to posses one of these arms.

Personally, I care greatly for 'realism' and view 'historical accuracy' as a novelty. I couldn't care less what weapons are represented in-game, as long as they actually existed before or during WW2, they behave and function as realistically as possible, and some plausible explanation as to how they came to be in your soldiers hands can be imagined.

I really like the suggestion of Winchester 1895. :)

"In 1915-1916, 293,816 musket configuration Model 1895's were made for Imperial Russia to use on the Eastern Front in World War I. These were in 7.62x54 Russian[sic]. They were used extensively in the Russian Civil War (Whites vs. Reds) and later by the Finns against the Russians in 1939."

Whether they actually were in Stalingrad, to me, is not important. What is important, is that they could have been in Stalingrad.:IS2:

This suggestion belongs in the Jetpack thread which is all about acrade, historical inaccuracy, and focus on perks and Heroes. We discussed stuff like a Hero SturmJetpack, with two attached panzershreck launchers, along with double MG's. Adding the Sturml

German Unlock:

Gewehr 98
799px-Mauser_m98.jpg

^ Was replaced by the K98 and was in service for Germany from 1898–1935 (German Military) and 1944–1945 (German Volkssturm).... it also has a longer bayonet, thus should allow the player to have a longer attack range for melee. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch for this rifle to appear somewhere along the way, especially by a "Hero" who's been in battle for a long while.

Russian Unlock:

Mosin Nagant M38 Carbine
M38_Mosin.JPG

^ Shorter range, no bayonet attachment, but for balance purposes, the rifle should allow for better mobility due to a smaller size, and perhaps re-bolt speed should be increased.

Just my thoughts.

This. Ive really been missing the Russki carbines. Not that I ever really noticed the difference in performance (mostly just used 91/30 cause its sexy), perhaps it shows at longer ranges, but it was always fun to change things up a bit and grab an M38.

I do like the G98 idea as well, for me it would not be a stretch to see a few in/around stalingrad.

Agreed, Just introduce more rifles for selection with different pros and cons with each.

I used to pick the Carbine a few times through the mod and RO1, just because it wasn't long and slender, looked beefy and sounded like it kicked some butt when fired.

I'm somewhat surprised by the negative responses to this post. The Mosin-Nagant, for example, actually existed and was issued in a relatively diverse number of variants.

The 91/30 and m38(91/38, if you like) are two of those variants that would have been common at the time of the Battle of Stalingrad. The m38 is simply a carbine version, it has no bayonet and the dimensions of the bolt are smaller(the cocking piece, specifically). The tangent sight was graduated to a shorter maximum range, and because of the shorter barrel/lower weight, it has moderately greater recoil and increased muzzle blast.

Chances are exceedingly high that more weapon choices will not be added to the base game, however, tossing around some reasonable ideas for additions helps plant the seeds for others to build on those thoughts.

Be excellent to each other.

I don't think anyone has a problem with including the M38 Carbine, as we know for a fact this weapon participated in the battle of Stalingrad, and in large enough numbers to warrent inclusion.
Infact, a lot of us assumed the M38 would be in the game prior to release, i know i did, i just thought it haden't been annouced yet, and i was quite disappointed when it turned out it wasen't.

But the G-98, SMLE and K-31 have absolutely no place in Stalingrad, if anything, it is techically possible for one or two snipers to have brough along a G-98 (even if that is unlikely, they were not issued anymore), but that's far to few to warrent inclusion if any were there at all, and the SMLE and K-31 didn't belong to any faction participating in the battle, and i can promis you that not one single example of thease rifles were there.

We allready have enough anachronistic, extremely rare prototype and outright made-up weapons and attachments in this game, we don't need more, infact we need options to remove that crap that's allready there!

If you want rifles that was in the battle but aren't in the game, the M38 Carbine and the Berdan rifle are all that comes to mind, and i doubt anyone would want to use the Berdan (it was a singleshot rifle, and not issued, but some of the civilian population in Stalingrad did own Berdan rifles, beeing a very popular hunting rifle in Russia at the time, and did make use of them).
