So I got a bsod today after work and it said,
( DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL)

and then got another bsod a couple mins after that saying,
( an attempt was made to execute non-executable memory)

Can anybody help me with this or point me in the right direction?
thanks guys.

Seems like your graphics card is dying.

DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL points to either an IRQ conflict, driver issues or a memory problem. Maybe more but these are the problems I have experienced personally. IRQ conflict is unlikely on modern systems as auto-configuration should take care of that. Together with the second message I'd say something is wrong with your VRAM.

Maybe you fried your card? Did you overclock it? Is the fan stuck/broken?

If nothing seems wrong with it, have you tried newer/different drivers? Have you tried taking it out and putting it back in (to make sure it's seated correctly)? Is it correctly plugged in and connected with everything it should be?

Well, as far as drivers go, I rolled back to the 195's cause I was having issues with the latest 2.
I've never overclocked it. I'm not to savy that way so I figure best leave it and I try to keep it dust free, usually ounce or twice a month I'll blow it out.

I'll remove it and clean things again, about that time, check connections and see what happens.
Lately, I've been having a few odd things happen and then this.
Thanks for the reply,
cheers!

Every time I've had that show up, it was a memory issue. I'm not saying that's your problem, but that's the only thing that's caused that on computers I've worked on.

Make sure that you have really cleaned out your previous graphic driver installs.

Back peddling with drivers has caused me problems in the past.

I've had a similiar issue few years back. It turned out that one of my memory sticks was faulty.

I'd suggest you take out your RAM sticks and try them one by one.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, how do I check my memory 1 stick at a time. What do I look for?
Last night, I took out my video card, (9800GTX+) and cleaned out my tower and fans. I thought I usually did a good job but I was amazed at how much dust actually came out from inside the card itself.
All connections looked ok as well. No broken pins or anything like that and good clean connections.

When I updated drivers in the past, I would uninstall from control panel, run driver sweeper followed by crap cleaner, then install the new ones.
I thought programs like driver sweeper were suppose to clean out anything left behind so there is no conflict with the new drivers.I thought I should clean up everything nvidia in my rig and I found a lot of stuff I thought should have been gone already.
I'm now trying the latest 197.45 WHQL drivers which I previously had problems with.

Hopefully I get lucky and it was just a combination of dust and files conflicting.

Thanks guys, your help and advice is much appreciated!
cheers!

From what I've read, its more than likely driver related. The "an attempt was made to execute non-executable memory" message indicates that for me. A search of Microsoft's Tech may confirm that.

Memtest86+ is a good way to test your memory. I don't know if it will do it stick by stick, but it may confirm whether or not that is where the problem lies. http://www.memtest.org/#downiso (I'm surprised to see that it hasn't been updated since Sept of last year). I use it all the time when determining whether an O/C will be stable....

If I find the white paper I saw at Microsoft support, I'll post back.

Good luck.

Floyd

** you could run memtest with one stick at a time installed, to find the stick in question ***

I just read a similar problem can be caused by a virus. So I'd check that first. Then run memtest86. It is a bootable iso that you can burn on CD iirc and use it the way you described. You have to let it run for hours though to be sure.

Ok, I'll check for virus's and then maybe I can let it run all night while I'm sleeping.

Thank-you Sir.

Updating my motherboard BIOS helped me get rid of this, and around 15 other blue screens.

Wish I tried it up front. I did everything else - video card drivers, Vista updates, uninstall reinstall drivers and video card, tested RAM, tried completely new RAM, ran stress tests on my video card, scanned for hard drive errors, did the Vista repair thing. Updating the motherboard BIOS did the trick.

If I recall, I had that problem. I usually install a 3.5in floppy for nostalgia so I created a bootable floppy and that works fine for me.

I think Windoze wants to do something weird with the CD before it writes the iso and screws things up. Perhaps someone else can chime in with regards to burning a bootable iso file onto a CD.

I've read too about viruses, but the memory thing isn't hard too hard to rule out if you can get memtest working.

Download CDBurnerXP. It's a free burning program and it can handle isos. Then burn the files on a CD, put it in the drive and reboot. You may have to enter set-up and change the boot-order so the system checks the CD drive for something bootable before the HDD or it'll just start windows as usual.

bsod all right, I ran the test and this morning after 9 1/2 hrs, it was still running with no results yet and all of a sudden bluescreen after bluescreen. I could barely stay logged in.
So, after running a hijack this scan, I ended up using LSP fix and reinstalling the software for my nForce650i ultra. I'll see what happens now.

I barely know what I'm doing:eek: so I hope I didn't make it worse for myself, heh

really appreciate the help guys,
cheers!

Not really of any help but remains an option.

You've tried a repair boot, I imagine...?
