Can you explain a little more? Im thinking of commands in-game that use IP addresses and no idea how to get the addresses to work over an IP like some servers.
my method isnt in game, but it means anyone wanting to connect doesnt need to remember a numeric ip, much much easier to remember kf.flux.net or something.
As you can see in the picture, both my Killing Floor and minecraft server has been setup to resolve under ephargy.com
Umm, dont try the KF server to test though, its pointing to the old IP! plus im not using my domain to redirect as my group has there own domain now, good thing i never gave that out. The minecraft one works fine though.
Since everything is running on the default ports i have no issues, can even access webadmin by adding the port after in the webrowser kf.ephargy.com:8075 i think.
Limitations
- When adding as a favorite, im not sure if it saves the resolved ip (the numbers) or the kf.ephargy.com etc
- Can take up to 24 hours to change the DNS servers when changing ip (my experience has been within 2 hours)
- Not sure if you can set it up for a custom port (in the case of having multiple servers on 1 ip, or a server on a custom port) *** actually you just list the port after, ie kf1.ephargy.com:7710)
If you are keen to try this way (a bit different to the OP as its not for while in a game but im thinking that the OP is meaning having the old server up but when a player connects to it, the client is told to connect to the new server automatically, i think this can be avoided in the first place using DNS redirects provided people know the server is always on the domain), Check your admin panel of you domain provider or hit me up on pm for my Steam/Skype, i might be able to guide you through if you have any issues.
