Hi guys.
My first post here and its a question.
I am just starting to mess around with changing the stock ingame skins.
I can open them and convert them to and from dds files.
I have made a quicky whitewash PZIV skin and would like to be able to see it in game.
Can someone explain in plain English how to view these in game.
Or point me in the right direction to a good tutorial explain the same.

I have trawled round the interweb and am getting nowhere fast.
Also is there a downloadable couple of maps that have all the vehicles on them (winter, summer).
This way i could check all my skins easy.
TIA guys.

This is easy, thankfully.

Place the mesh in the editor normally. Double click on it to open the properties dialog. In the Display section you should see a property called Skin or something similar. If you open it up you should see the original skin texture.

Select your new skin in the texture browser and click "use" in the skin property of the mesh. Voila.

Good luck.

Lost me allready mate.
I open up the editor and i get a list of textures for vehicles and the like.
Do i import my texture into this list or what.
I have called it something else so i will not over write the default stuff(hopefully).
Then once its in how do i select the tank model to use it on.
Do i need to use a custom map or will any map it appears on do.
I think Basavka(or what ever its called ) has the PZIV in game.
I did warn you it needed to be in plain English.

TIA guys

Ah, I see.

Ok, first step is to import your new texture into the UEd.

To do that:

1. Go to the texture browser.
2. Under file, there's a menu item called import.
3. Find your texture. Turn off the mipmaps toggle. Enter some sane values for the name and package. For god's sake DON'T use an existing package. Use myLevel.
4. When it's imported, select it and compress it to dxt1

After that, you can apply it to the mesh.

Right thanks for that mate.
I'm getting somewhere now.I can import my texture and compress it and it shows up in the texture browser. But if i right click on the texture and select properties i get the properties screen appear but i can't seem to be able to do much there.
I can't for the life of me find a mesh button(i can see the static mesh one).
What am i doing wrong?
I have saved Barasvka as mylevel now so i can mess this up if needs be.
Do i need to do anything with my saved file to get it into the game or do i just add the map to the folder for RO.

TIA.

I did warn you that i may need a bit of help.

Ok, on any map:

1. Open the mesh browser and find your tank.
2. Place it in the map but right clicking and selecting the appropriate menu item.
3. Double click on the mesh. That should open up a properties dialog.
4. Open the Display group by clicking on the '+' by the word Display
5. Find the property skins (I think it's that, I'm operating from memory here).
6. Find your new skin in the texture browser.
7. Select the skin property and hit the "use" button to replace the old skin with the new.

You should see the change immediately.

Good luck.

Thanks for that dingbat.
i am now able to add a vehicle factory to my custom arad map.i now have a map with all the german tanks on it.

I have managed to add my new skin to one of the vehicle factories.
But when i play the game from the editor i get the following messages in the log file.
failed to load 'null'can't resolve package name
failed to load 'class none' can't resolve package
Plus my new skin doesn't show up.

Now i don't know what this package is.
I assume that the package contains all the skins and mesh details per map.
How do i make this package and where do i save it to.
I have my new skin saved in the texture list in the editor.

I did warn you i needed a bit of help.
I don't know if you can tell or not but i'm new to this 3d skining lark.:D
It was so much easier when i did mods for the Combat Mission games. They were just a flat bmp that you dropped into the correct folder.
