Guild Wars can do it without monthly subscriptions fees, and this game can't when it's being published by EA?

Monthly subscriptions fees? No thanks! Even if I don't have to pay them, it's a matter of principal.

I like Guild Wars more than normal MMOs

1- no monthly fees

2- there are more things to do in it than in other MMOs that are mostly about grinding for level and equipment, too much time wasted for so little reward

3- I can fully customize 8 characters with builds, equipment and weapons, in the same time that takes in other MMO to do that for only 1 character

4- you are not disturbed by idiots if you dont want to

now, hellgate: london

after seing the horrible graphics in the city I expected only crap from this game, but when I played the demo, I found out that the graphics indeed suck, but, at least it has that "thing" that was good in diablo 2 , that is the sensation when slaughtering undead, stil, I dont think its enough to buy it

edit:
correction, Ive played beyond the first map in the demo, and the graphics dont suck that much

It's not a "true" mmo. It is still an MMO because it has such things in the hubs, but the actual adventure space is instanced.

Well, instanced adventuring doesn't make an MMO any less of one. I mean it's not your typical MMO cause you can get henchmen and go do the adventures alone, but otherwise it's not different than getting in a group to do a WoW instance.

I turned the game off after I talked to that first gay and they made me read what he says. Are there proper dialogues in the full version?

Well this is obviously a spiritual sequel to the Diablo-games. The Demo is very short tho and only shows the first 20-30 minutes of the game. Later on it gets considerabely more fun and with different locations and graphical schemes, not to mention gear and skills. I wouldnt judge this one down and out just by the demo.

RPG-style games rarely have full spoken dialogue from all their hundreds and thousand NPCs, it would be a mindboggingly huge task ;)

Maybe, but Mass Effect is gonna get my money rather than this 'spiritual' sucessor to a game that came out 9-10 years ago.

Hack 'n slash isn't for everyone, but with found memories of Diablo 2, me and several of my friends simply have to give HGL a go. We see it as a more casual approach to the RPG-ish genre that isnt an insane timesink such as WoW and similar MMOs. Time will show if HGL is any good and if its a success or not. Generally speaking Blizzard and to a lesser extent the various companies founded by their ex-employees, tend to make quality games that are both fun and addictive. After all, these are the folks that did make some of the most successfull titles ever back in the day. I choose cross my fingers and stay positive :p

Long story short:

This did nothing to me. It's nowhere close to diablo, and for a 1.4gig download looks awful. The NPCs also make me want to punch them due to their stupid voiceovers.

Oh, and they also don't tell you when the demo is over and just strand you in the middle of nowhere to run around empty space.

Yep, this sums up how I felt about the demo. I'll pass!

If you recall diablo 2, the first area(s) was hardly that awesome. As the story picked up and you got going the game became considerabely more interesting (those awesome cinematics to take one thing) :) What I'm hearing from those few selected in the HGL beta that got to play the later acts the game kicks off considerabely lvl and story-wise. Havent seen for myself tho. Its ridicilous by Flagship to drop that horrible demo, they certainly won't sell many games with it!

RPG genre derive from heavily text-based games and due to the way they are built up, you will always have to read stuff, if you want to play them at all, that is. Most RPGs have written quest descriptions of more or less considerable lengths. An example is the infamous WoW, where they can be like half an A4-page of pure text. It doesnt seem to hamper the popularity of the game tho ;) Judging a game down and out due to not all communication with NPCs being vocal, tells more about the judge than the quality of the game IMHO. Of course, people are free to do as they choose, the basic rule is however, if you don't like it, shut up and don't play it.
