The jump from Suicidal to HoE isn't all that big.

What do people think of keeping everything the same, but making it kind of a realism mode with a minimal HUD.

No teammate health bars or self health numbers unless you equip the med syringe/MP7M. This would make these 2 weapons diagnostic as well as healing.

No ammo display unless you are in the process of reloading.

No trader location until the trader round begins.

No display of number of enemies/waves remaining. You could see current wave by looking at scoreboard of course.

If you want to get a small taste of what this is like, select "Hide HUD" in the HUD options. Hide HUD doesn't work well though, because you dont get any info in any context.
It's not only kinda fun, it makes the game look even more awesome.

I wouldn't mind this. It's very interesting and engaging to play when information is limited and you have to "feel" more, instead of operate strictly from the numbers.

Meh. I played Metro 2033. It has almost ZERO hud. And honestly, it's more of "Outright frustrating and annoying" than challenging because of it. You have to count bullets as you fire (Very difficult with an automatic weapon). It's frustrating against Metro's mostly human opponents. I couldn't imagine doing that with zeds...

Go play with a real gun and tell me if a little box with numbers in it appears in the corner of your eye. ;)
Yeah, i would love to see some more customization for the HUD.

Wow, you actually found that troublesome? I've never been caught with an empty mag and i've used alot of the weapons in that. My Primary was the silenced bastard gun for a while and the mag is visible but still, it wasn't that much of an issue with the AK.

Heck, I reneerally don't look at the magazine box counter in KF :|

This idea would be better served as a mutation.

yeah. To be honest, I personally find HoE significantly more difficult than Suicidal; in Suicidal, me and some friends usually win the match if we work together and as a nice team. HoE usually leads to us dieing, even if we work well together, most likely around waves 7-10. A really good team usually dies around wave 10, a generally good team, wave 7. So why get rid of that?

Anyways, there are some games I feel benefit from HuD, some that don't. No HUD KF is downright annoying to me, and yet it works with beauty in ROOst. But this doesn't mean those who disagree should be deprived of it, so I would say some HUD options would be nice as well as perhaps a mutator for this.

It was only "Troublesome" once or twice. The rest of the time, it was just annoying and something I didn't like. It added to the immersion, yeah, but more often than not, was just a distraction that would get me hit because I was mentally trying to count shots instead of watching my tail!

Mutation? L4D2?

I do agree though, it'd probably be better as a mutator. It's a bit specific to simply implement it as a feature of one of the difficulties.

Woah, woah, woah, buddy! Valve doesn't get credit for this one!

Unreal coined the term "Mutator" and "Mutation" YEARS before even Left 4 Dead 1 was out!

If it were a mutator, I would REALLY want it white listed. Nothing will kill a mutator like disabling stats.

I still stand by the idea of making it a feature of HoE.
It would add that extra challenge and make those achievements that much more difficult/fun to earn.

This. I never understood these "No HUD" type of ideas in order to increase difficulty, it doesnt make things any more difficulty just plain annoying. Realism mode is ok but just put it separate from the difficulty modifiers and make it its own gamemode or something.

A lot of games go the wrong way when increasing difficulty. The most common and simpliest way is increasing the stats on the enemy making them do more damage, have more health and so on. Thats alright for the first 3 stages of difficulty, but usually the last one is at the point of one-hit-kill from the enemy which is just furstrating. What they should do instead, is modify the number of enemies (which KF does by some extend), modify the spawns and just generally add some surprises in the game so the player doesnt have the advantage of knowing whats around the next corner.

Resident Evil 4
did it the right way imo, the first 3 or so difficulties were just less ammo, tougher enemies etc... but the hardest difficulty actually had more enemies and even multiple bosses at once. For example, you struggled to survive the chainsaw boss in the village on hard difficulty, but guess what, you had 2 chainsaw bosses on very hard difficulty. This forced you to come up with something different since camping in one corner was no longer such a good idea especially with the lack of ammo.

Dead Space 2 instead, went the wrong way with their Hardcore mode... This difficulty was actually easier than the zealot difficulty (which is basically "very hard"), but instead of coming up with something decent they decided to limit the number of saves to 3 during the whole damn game which lasted about 10 hours on my first playthrough, 7-8 on my second. And there was no checkpoints. So basically, you could play 3 hours straight without saving, then die and start from the very beginning. PLAIN ANNOYING AND FRUSTRATING. Theres so many possibilities for an accident even tho you were a very good player... It wouldve been much better if they randomized the spawns a bit for the enemy so you didnt know what to expect and perhaps do double bosses. That wouldve been really challenging.

So, to come to a conclusion, in order to increase the difficulty in KF so it would actually mean something, they should randomize the waves instead of using the exact same loadout every time, and perhaps add a few new abilities for the specimens. But ofc we all know thats not gonna happen because its too much work, but perhaps we could expect that in a possible sequel.
