I've noticed quite a few threads about decapitations, usually about the crossbow, stating that the numbers do not match up. This is incorrect. What some people are omitting is that head shot decapitation instant kills only require that the attack does

A) 15% of the specimen's current HP
B) brings the specimen's total remaining HP to under 50%

Example:

Scrake (1000HP + 500HP per player) * 1.35 HARD / * 1.75 SUICIDAL

Scrake 6 Player Suicidal - 6125 HP

Damage required to instant kill at 100%: 3062.5

A) 918.75
B) 3062.5

Damage required to kill at 50%: 1531.25

As the Scrake takes damage, it becomes easier to decapitate with less powerful attacks. This is the reason Perks without bonuses to the crossbow are able to kill Scrakes in 1-x bolts.

Also, if that attack removed a specimens's head, if cause extral damage, too. But I bet many of us here know that very well.
That is why it is really hard to see headless Scrakes/Fleshpounds, because most people are using "big guns" against them, as a result, that shot blow away their face will also cause their death.

Btw, anyone see a headless Siren? Every time I remove her head, she's dead. I wonder if we can remove her head but not killing her.

My own personal hell
Both sirens and scrakes have sturdy head that prevents decaps unless they are under 10% of their total HP. So while it would seem to be possible (I have never seen a headless siren) to decap them it would have to be on a high difficulty with a low power weapon it would be very difficult to do so.

I have seen alive scrakes without heads quite often after the level up dlc. It's usually while playing medic, chopping away at their face with the katana and pop goes their head, but they keep standing. I always continue to cut them to pieces since I don't know how a headless scrake reacts :p (At least on 6 man hard games this happens)

I haven't seen it on sirens yet since they die so fast anyway.

I was playing a 6 man hard server (as a medic) just now and I decap a Flesh pound by an xbow bolt which pass trough one Bloat. The headless Fleshpound run around randomly with his red light on. I think it is funny:p

The Scrake can't be decapitated until it dies :p
Neither can the Siren. They have a special ability that prevents it, called Hard Head or something.

I know it was just an example, but I felt the need to nitpick :3

There's something hidden going on. I'm almost positive that Scrakes take more damage than usual from either headshots, crossbow bolts, or both...

One thing with scrakes is that for each player that join their hp increases with 50% while the head hp only increases with 25%.
