"Headless" Specimen

Ive seen so many topics where people complain how Sharpshooters are unfair, and how Fleshpounders are no longer dangerous due the fact that you can pop its head off with one shot.

So, what Im suggesting, is a new specimen which you cant kill with a headshot. Im not saying it should actually be headless, but I dont know maybe it has a helmet or something. Anything that prevents you from doing a one shot kill with the sharpshooter. Instead, make it vurnable against explosives or fire perhaps.

Even better if this new specimen would be around as strong as a fleshpounder or a scrake, but to balance it out a bit make it slower? Would definately bring some more challenge to the game, or variety, dont you think?

That's a pretty defeatist attitude.
I like the above idea.

Just reduce mags for the M14, make it have max 10 or the 8 it spawns with. Then they have to pick their shots, rather than just spam away.

Or remove the bonus damage sharpshooters gets to body shots, that would force players to go for head shots for maximum efficiency.

They're not supposed to be useless against normal zombies.
The point with the M14 is that they have exactly that, as an upgrade from the crossbow.

So you still have the xbow which is the precision tool of the SS and a slightly weaker verson, the m14 for less headshot damage but more versatility.

If you remove the bonus you'll force all SS' to carry around something else for general killing, and that at least, doesn't seem to be the devs intetion.

What exactly about that idea would rend them completely useless against clotsncrawlers?
From what I've seen, those have heads. And if it has a head, it's weak against a sharpshooter.
Yes, that means every single enemy is weak against a sharpshooter as opposed to other perks who have 'archenemies' they're weak against.
The question that arises is: Why do you think they should be that effective against masses of zeds?
Why should spamshooting be rewarded?
Out of all perks, this one should punish it.

I'm just saying how a Sharpshooter would logically think. They'd either body shot it, nade it, blast it with another weapon, or whatnot. Down the M-14 ammo and they'll start using a Handcannon/9mm to compensate.

Personally, I use the M-14/Lever Action Rifle combo. Very effective.

Anyway, the big reason I don't like this specimen idea is because it just gives off a dual vibe of gimmicky and because it just seems spiteful against Sharpshooters in general. That'd be like saying "Lets make a specimen immune to explosions because demomen are too powerful". It just feels wrong.

There is already such specimen, the scrake. He isnt totally immune but he is resistant to explosives. So hows that different from a zed which is "resistant to headshots" so to speak (assuming he actually has a head but somehow covered in armor or w/e). Also, there is a zed which is resistant to fire -> husk. Pretty much all persk need to carry around more than one weapon to deal with different types of enemies, nothing new about that.

And this "blasting their body with m14 rounds", if this new zed would be around as tough as a Fleshpounder, a clip of m14 rounds in its body wouldnt bring it down. Even if it did, the point of this zed was removing the ability to "one shot" it.

Wow! Best suggestion I've heard since I joined the forum! Never though of it myself, but it's really a Superb idea =D That's what the sharpshooter is all about. Maybe it isn't enough nerf but really something!!

Or release an official mutator that disables headshots, like the mod.
in the mod on normal it took about 5 9mm shots to take down A clot.
they normally came in 4clots + 1 bloat, so it was challenging.

I didn't play SS much before the update, but didn't scrakes, fps and sirens all used to have headshot resistance? I don't think anyone complained about them being unfair for SS's.

Every class should have a weakness, i.e. range for zerk, close range for demo, etc. Since SS has no major weakness with the M14, the only solution is to nerf the M14.

Reduce SS reload bonus and decrease total M14 clip capacity to 10 (200 rounds instead of 300).

I also agree that non-headshot damage boost should be reduced, since the base damage boost plus headshot dmg boost results in a pretty ridiculous damage output for the M14.

The mod had headshots. They would knock the clots over. I think the bonus for headshot damage was much lower though.

Sounds like a nice idea - create a zombie that is completely bullet proof.

Husks are already fire resistant so why not make this new guy vulnerable to melee only weapons
Though I'm all for buffing Zerker, this would absolutely kill teams that don't have a melee weapon-user. Unless it could be defeated with knives, which kinda defeats the purpose...

Perhaps a high bullet resistance then.

or maybe his back is a weak point so you can kill him with knives if you can get around there, and from the front you'd need the zerker or alot of knives

Either way...every specimen has a head in this game, and it can be blown off. It would add to the variety of specimen to add one without a head. (Or with its headshot location somewhere weird.)

This adding a weakspot behind its back is a great idea too. I dont know, make it vurnable for fire but if you dont have a firebug in the team, attack the weakpoint behind its back for MASSIVE damage.

lol couldnt resist xD

But yeah I really think its a good idea.

Or have a zed with 2 or 3 heads instead so you can't one-shot them, preferably with a ranged attack for each head, with more range than a siren. This would become less of a threat with each head you shot off. The heads should be tough like husk heads, requiring high-powered weapons to decap, and a tougher body. Discussed here.

Yes I agree, the 3 headed zed is a better idea (or not necessarily better but at least more fun). We should spam that topic a bit to make TWI crew notice it.
