Head movement. Mod or patch would be nice.

What I mean is, when I have my MG pointed down range covering a certain area, or even a rifle, It would be nice if you could move your head, and not your whole weapon system to look left and right. With a MG this would be a very nice feature to have so I dont have to redeploy my MG everytime i need to look right or left further than the MG will traverse.

I think this could be done by using the space bar to give your head a free look. Maybe 90 degrees to the left and right.

Think about it, You are prone, you have your weapon zoomed, and in perfect firing postion. You now need to look to the right because you hear something. But as of now, you have to move the whole weapon to do so and take your aim off your covering area downrange. With the system I propose, It would be a more user friendly, and realistic approach to looking to your sides without having to move your weapon. Quick press and hold of the spacebar, while moving your mouse would simulate head only movement. Even walking or sprinting I think this would be a welcome feature.

What i envision is a quick press with your thumb of the spacebar, to give your head a free look mode to improve situational awareness. When you let off the spacebar, your vision would snap back to your iron sights of your weapon. Could this be possible.

Thoughts?

It's called free-look. It works best if you have a head tracking system, like TrackIR, or Track noIR (uses a webcam). I know Ramm was looking into this years ago - as he was on the TrackIR forums.

Unfortunately, this would require the 1st person player model to be seriously fleshed out. So I doubt we'll see it in RO2. Keep your fingers crossed for RO3!

Hey, with the SDK out, maybe somebody will make a mod for RO2 using the 3rd person model, like ARMA does.

ARMA does this, but you can do it at any time by holding alt. I think this is definitely something that should be implemented, not just for MGs.

I could never enjoy ARMA II due to it's clunky movement but some of the features are great. Freelook is one of them :) Another ARMA feature that I would love too see in RO2 is ability to dynamicaly change FOV ("zoom in/out") while moving.

for that to work properly, the game should allow us to see our own body when look down.

It was bad enough in IL2, in which people pretty much had to have track IR to stand a chance. I'd rather not see RO2 go the same way :p

Good point, but I think FPSers and flight simmers are a different beast. A TrackIR system costs a bit of money- and flight simmers often have pedals, throttle, and joystick. So a TrackIR isn't much more.

Of course, with Track NoIR, all you need is a webcam and a decent CPU.

You can always do free-look with mouse and a "shift key" - but that wouldn't be as good as a dedicated head tracking system.

Free-look, it was suggested maaaaaany times by community.

Unfortunately it wasn't implemented by TWI because... why would it be useful in CoD-a-like-game? **irony**

ArmA 2 has it, great thing to have in tactical game.

Yes, I'm sure it didn't have anything to do with being yet another technical and very non-core feature at a time when they were already having to cut back features in order to actually release the game. There are a few dozen other things that likely have priority over free-look.

how about the system used in bf3 when u are deplyed and looking thru scope or ironsight u can press the ironsight button again and the view goes off the scope/IS and u can move the gun and look around while being stll deployed to bipod. ofcourse this only helps when deployed to bipod. freelook, well it could be implemented so u can only look left and slightly down and right and slightly down, not straight down.
