Has anyone tried to play it on a LAN yet?

Does it work nicely? The release version that is, this is pretty much my final indecision before buying the game.

I'm still worried that Steam will have disabled LAN play. Any updates gratefully recieved.

I have never used Steam so I am seeking verification that someone has got it to work.

I played CS on my LAN about 10 years ago and that worked fine.
I'm itching to get this game so if anyone has any news I'm a willing sponge for that information.

Steam got some odd problems with "Offline play" but no one at Valve agrees and say that it's working as intented. But it isn't.

Thanks Trillex.
That's what I was worried about.

I guess I will be waiting for those patches or some swashbuckler to disable Steam for me.
Hopefully that won't be too long. I'm looking forward to this game.

I played a 3(real) v 3bots at a local cafe thing on an all nighter to see what it was like.. not sure if I like the game, but it did work on the lan. These PC's were connected to the net and you did need to open steam to open RO. I don't know if it needs to be connected to the net to open the steam thing.

you always need to launch the games through steam irregardles of whether you are online or not,

for lan you simply start in offline mode if you don't have internet connectivity.

you can still lan on steam games even if you are on the internet generally creating a game in steam will be lan because it only accepts dedicated servers as hosts, not sure about RO though

Im guessing that because there is a LAN button, there is the ability to play LAN! I think this will be awsome for a LAN too, OPFlashpoint was very good.

Tnx for all the great replies.

Here is my personal brainteaser.

I have 6 computers on my LAN. All of my computers are permanently connected to the internet.
How many copies of Red Orchestra must I buy in order to play a LAN game with this setup?

Totally agree.
We had huge problems on our last LAN party (ask Sasquatch).
Thing is Steam is very unstable when played offline. We had to make connection to the internet on totally irregular moments. Clients which were perfectly validated 5 minutes before refusing to work etc etc etc.

Valve has a serious problem with offline mode and so all RO players might have a problem on LAN-parties without inet connection. Make sure there is a connection or you'r in serious trouble.

Don't say I didn't warn ya folks :D

I've been to Two lans in the last two years and at both steam was in heavy use. Never a problem. All you have to do is hit cancel while it tries to connect.

What about the Mod version does that work instead?
What version of Unreal would I need to buy?

Played the first weekend it was out with a friend. We had two machines on a cable connection. No lag on 'Arad' so it should be fine if your connection is good.
