I was laying on the ground in Spartanovka on the west side shooting towards the east. I heard footsteps coming from my left and turned to face a charging German. I accidentally switched on full-auto and unloaded the rest of my clip into him. He managed to hit me, though, so I was already too far bled to heal up in time.
At least it was cool.

I looooooooooove the AVT. Mid to short range it's extremely effective when you pull your mouse down to compensate for the kick. If anything I have it set to "SVT" mode, and then will flip the switch when entering a building to utilize that awesome rapid burst.
I like it, usually switch to semi and use it like the SVT. Then back to full auto when the time comes to clear some rooms. 
The few times I chose it I used the alt fire mode to use it like a semi auto.And would switch to auto for house clearing I may be wrong but it does seem to have better bullet penetration than the mkb42(as it should in RL)
Except currently it's a 'direct upgrade' of the PPSH? Given that Assault doesn't get the SVT as far as I'm aware.
It obviously isn't anywhere near as good as the mkb, but it's alot more satisfying to kill someone with the avt than it is with the mkb. /If/ I continue to play this and don't fully revert back to DH I see the AVT used whenever possible on either side, it's so difficult to use that it's fun.
Bursting is fine out to 100m, but going full auto at any range is kind of risky, not only due to the recoil but also due to the limited magazine size.

actually i'm kindof fond of the AVT. it's neat because i can do long distance shots on single shot, and then if i'm storming a building i can set it to auto for close quarters. its an extremely variable weapon.
The horrible hit detection we have right now counters this gun. Sticking to semi for awhile it seems.
there is no question that you are 100% correct
this isn't a discussion people -- if it's even hurting you a tiny bit you aren't using it right.
at the minimum, it is exactly the same. turn it to semi-auto if you must, but it should never hurt you.
i usually switch it to svt mode and keep it there. It has a higher coded max ROF so even on semi it can chain off rounds twice as fast as an svt 40. This keeps the ROF down so you dont plaster a 6 inch hole in the wall in CQB.
