I have to admit, the guy that pulled the nade pin and killed 3/4 of the spawn, and then said 'OMG Im so sorry!!" about ten times in chat was kind of funny. Seems he botched his key settings and thought he was changing weapons, hehe.

The guys coming from Battlefield games are used to picking up stuff by pressing 'G'... ;)

I think they're doing great, generally.

Even balanced out some of the maps, so Allies even could make it past first obj on Commisar and RedOctober, since all Germans didn't know all the perfect spots.

I guess now all the axis regulars don't get to just stack axis on one server :p

So people are moaning that the player base is too small. Then there is the one chance – on a free weekend plus a nice humble bundle – to get newbies in the community and you post a thread how much you love to own everyone and laugh about them?

Maybe tone down your awesomeness a bit for this weekend huh? Could be nice to actually get the community growing and not frustrate every single player that tries out this game.

+1

I was actually amazed at how well some of the new players were playing. There were of course those laying back worried too much about their "kill/death ratio", but as a whole its been was a pleasant surprise. With any "free" weekend, there will always be the asshats that come on and TK everyone just because its the internets and they can.....but suck it up guys. Lets get some hooked.

I was impressed by some new guys going like pros hunting the tanks with AT nades :p

Was Tk'ed a few times too but always forgive them and say it happens no problem or things like this.

Tell them about the T key to see the OBj's , tell them to check the map, be kind and polite, i got to say that it's a bit a shame to know most players right now filling the servers are new comers and see some guys speaking really bad to them when they get teamkilled, we all know that free weekends and such with plenty of new comers means plenty of easy kills for older players, also plenty of teamkills and a lot or funny moments. :p

They are totally not funny anymore if they take the one Russian tank on Druzhina. They camp in spawn, waiting and staring for that one sporadic kill somewhere in the distance....

I managed a 58 kill streak on Winterwald last night, I was just sat on a hill on the far right flank mowing down streams of humble bundlers with my belt fed MG eventually they started claiming "haxxor" on the pub chat when they couldnt work out where they were being shot from for the 100th time

Haha, nice. I manage to rack up 37 kills in the first 4 mins and 45 seconds of a Commissioner's house match as MG in one life on a 40 player server. A lot of it was just spamming through smoke past A, but I know where to spam through the smoke to get the kills in the common spots its just a question of whether a player is there or not.

Sadly hero skins have definitely been getting me tked a lot.

I'll go for it :p
Thx mate, was a bit out of solutions to explain him what to do especially since i don't have a nvidia card to take some screenshots or make a video or something to show him the steps, hopefully you get it to work and he will enjoy a bit more the game.

Thanks again ;)

It's a bit arrogant to think that we are somehow better than them, wer'e not, were just accustomed to the game. I've shouted out help and did my bit as a squadleader tonight, but also I think its ok to give em a bit of ****e now and again if theyre sitting back, after all, were all used to a bit of abuse in online gaming. :)

The big thing is to not come over all exclusive, particularly not to kick people for taking particular roles, thats really elitist and puts peoples backs up (server owners and clans take note).

The new players are complete morons and noobs. Its that time of the year when I have to stop playing to have fun. Otherwise I get teamkilled all the time because those noobs are not paying any attention about who they are aiming at and they think they are some 1337 pro 360 no scope 420 weed tactical soldier or something because they are giving commands to the TL and SL rofl.. give me a break...

I prefer a 1000 players pool of vets who know what to do rather than 100 000 players pool of noobs who don't know which side of their rifle makes boom. I've had enough of those kids in BF.

The free weekends are ruining the game ever god damn time. If somebody wants to buy the game he will do it no matter what. 99% of the free weekend noobs will never go back and/or buy the game anyway.

Guys, please try to remember you were new and not that good too.

The community needs to grow. Encourage players to learn the features. Let them know that the harder modes are not advised, especially if they're struggling.

It was because people were nice to me, explained things ect. that I stayed.

It's a great game with great features, the new guys should experience it too.

People won't buy something a lot of times until they try it. Many try it during free weekends and DO buy. If you have a clan, it's a great way to tell them to come try. People coming to this game have a bit of a learning gap and may give up easily. If you help, encourage them to learn and advise them on the modes to play ect.. can all help.

It is nice to laugh at some of the funny things new players do every now and then but it is in our best interests to encourage them and teach them to enjoy the game. I've noticed a disturbing trend recently where some of the more experienced players will berate the new guys for making silly mistakes and actually welcome them leaving... Seriously guys?

+2

It's great to see such a huge number of players turning out to play at odd hours (at least loggin in from SE Asia). I completely agree with above post - seeing a lot of experienced players just doing exactly that.

If you are not inclined to coach / lead using mic, I hope the vets will at least even up the teams to make matches little less frustrating for the new folks.

Remember you were once a noob. You will also be a noob when Rising Storm comes out as well.

If you don't want to play during the weekend just avoid it instead of moaning about them. A lot of Free weekends bring in new and extra players. I originally got RO:OST during it's first free weekend and stuck with it ever since.

Yes some can be annoying by not doing objectives or camping, But a lot will leave roles if nicely asked so more experienced players can play the role. Hell i don't like being Commander once, but i did on Rakowince and tried to help the Russians as much as possible.

I welcome the extra players as it means more full servers then the usual small amounts and actually means Classic servers have more players then bots in them.

But when some of the 'Veterans' berate newer players, it does not give a nice and welcoming feel to the community what RO:OST, RO2 and KF do have.

I was noob about knowing the maps but not the gameplay

And here comes the ego trip. Unless you were genuinely born a pro FPS player out of the womb, you were a noob at OstFront at one point. If yes then I will worship you eternally.

Also, so instead of encourgaing them to improve and stop being such morons, you just fume about how much you are better than everyone  I look forward to your thread several weeks down the line complaining about a stagnant community.
