Ok, how many can pretty much confirm seeing hackers/cheaters in RO2? Because everyone keeps banging on about them and crying hax0r in game yet i never personally see anything that cannot be discounted by other variables. I know there are always hackers and cheats ingames, but seriously, is it really that rampant?

Rant

The fact that i got called a 'mg hacker' in one match and a few other people got called 'aimbot wallhackers' in another really irritates me. Must everybit of skill and/or good luck be considered cheats? Is it not possible that the area you run through is zeroed in? It it not possible that pixel hunting and zoom functions aid spotting? Is it not possible to shoot at the muzzle flash you see lighting up the smoke? Sheesh.

There are cheaters in every single game. If there's other people to "impress" (an audience), there WILL be cheaters. There are cheaters on casual facebook games, man.

I've seen one aimbot (instantly swivelled and accurately shot, regardless of where the player was pointing when they became visible). Other people were complaining about the player as well. Eventually he was kicked.

The first few times I was killed by this player I put down to my own fumbling, but as I learnt his location, and was able to spot him as soon as he became visible (and hence see his movements), the speed at which he swivelled (he was originally pointing about 90 degrees away from me) and shot seemed ridiculous - and was repeated many times.

I got kicked from one server at the beginning of the week for cheating. I stabbed 2 assaults and 1 semi in a room on Apartments while they were all unleashing bullets on me. I was totally surprised that I survived but can assure anybody that I am too dumb for cheating. I was actually not even bothered to be kicked as I was so surprised myself to come away with this...

It's probably because the damage detection, penetration and statistics are comparable to real life, I mean if you got shot oncee by a machine gun, I'm pretty sure it's gonna kill you, either that or your not getting up anytime soon, and it will no doubt take care of that job just as well when going through a wall. This game isn't for 12 year COD noobs who have zero patience, it's for people who are used to a slower paced gameplay, understand the concept of realism and are more mature.

I know of one situation where I think everybody on the server, including myself, were sure there was an aimboter on the map.

As soon as I rounded the corner and had the guy sighted for a kill, I was headshotted before he even turned around to face me. A few other people were complaining through chat that they were getting killed way too easy by this same guy.

It could have been skill, and I first thought maybe I was having a bad day, but then it kept happening & people were getting shot before they even had a chance to do anything, even when they had the upper hand on him.

Eventually our team ran out of reinforcements and we were all stitting around in spawn waiting for the round to end and someone commented on their score, so I took a look.

He had over twice the amount of kills than anybody else on his team or my team.... I've seen people with a good sized lead above other players and topping the ranks, but not to the extent this guy did..... his score was much higher than anybody else's score to such an extent I've never seen in any of the previous RO games.

I don't see cheaters often and the times I do suspect there's a cheater it's still very questionable and could be just someone who knows what they're doing..... but this specific time it was completely obvious they were cheating.

Most times I hear someone complaining about a cheater or a hacker, it's unfounded and someone is just being butthurt.

Well...

I have not personally witnessed a cheater...

Partially because I think they are either RARE... or very Obvious when there is one.... but there is also the problem that when we spectate we cannot see the weapon that the person is using.

If we had a weapon to look at... it would be or should be a lot easier to weed out the fishy players when they do pop up from time to time.

TripWire needs to put the weapons into view for spectating.

I've never seen it myself, in any game actually. Well I remember playing some Halflife mod many years ago when a TKer had aimbot, it was quite painful but obviously he was just griefing, not really cheating. Certainly they exist but I think some 99.999% of the time people cry wolf on above average players.

This thread could do with a case study in cheater mentality:
Aimbot - YouTube

I just remembered I've been accused of wallhacking on Battlefield: Vietnam a few years ago. Yeah, doesn't make any kind of sense since the game doesn't have bullet penetration.

OUH GOD! I'm glad that never happened to me because I went on a stabbing frenzy one day and got like 7-8 while they all tried to pepper me on Grain Elevator. I think part of it is the slight hit detection issue at close range that saved me, but also the chaos that comes from someone charging at someone instead of being a good soldier and shooting from the other ridge for them. It's pure luck, but I can't image anyone having a god-mode hack just to be obvious and stab everyone.

I do believe I saw and Aimbot hack once, but I think most people are just Tweaking instead of Hacking right now (That whole post on how someone brightened up everything, and made units stand out). While not HACKING, it does give obvious advantages that people might call out hacker for while not understanding it.... Though I personally think tweaking is about as bad as hacking.

I'm sure I'll be called a hacker soon enough, and I will smile at having had a good round... and pray it wasn't an admin XD

People will always accuse each other of hacking when they're doing well, that's pretty typical.

Hackers are, however, pretty easy to spot. I played on apartments where all the top players had less then 30 kills, except for someone named Friedrich who had 80+ (I can name him/her specifically since they were picked up and banned on punkbuster by pbbans).

When you see them, you will know it.

I quite often empty my clips firing blindly into smoke, when I know (or assume rather) there aren't any friendlies there. Once in a while I manage to kill someone, and being called a cheater in that case, well...

Well I've never seen someone I kenw was hacking, although there was this one guy one time who seemed to continuously headshot people but he left (or was kicked) before I could be sure.

I haven't been accused of hacking in RO2, even after my brilliant round with a rifle on Grain Elevator, although I have been accused of hacking in TF2 for my paranoid spychecking as a soldier. It was rather funny actually, he said he'd been playing the game for years and knew hacking when he saw it yet 1) I'd never seen him around before and 2) he didn't seem to understand that just because you're invisible doesn't mean you're invincible.

I've seen a MG'er use an aimbot, he was running around the map hipfiring left and right. Spectate the person and you see him flick around at incredible speeds, to shoot people left and right. Bleibob was his name.

Only ever came across one hacker in the DDE beta but he was blindingly obvious; walking round apartments headshotting everyone with a hip-fired DP-28 like f**kin rambo.
