Alternatively, hit F3 to open just the console command line.

As far as FPS are concerned, I was used to low FPS, but now I have a hard time stomaching anything below 35.

Good lord, bleh
Some of you guys are obsessing about all this way, way too much. Play the game if you enjoy it, and stop worrying. My lord. You'd think you were all a bunch of old women, for god's sakes.
Better yet, get off the 'puter for ten minutes & take a break outside.

I just got back into the forums after a while away thanks very much..... besides, while we're all waiting for something to get into the game, wtf else are we to do?

Guess you just want us all to stop posting & just walk away from the forums, making the game and now the forums more of a ghost town.

People keep complaining about others in here posting about their concerns, issues and negativity..... yet I think the people continually telling others to leave and/or to stop posting (or posting as much) are worse.

If they do a free weekend with updates and what not they maybe able to salvage this community. ATM I'm calling it Dead. 2fg no longer runs full 24/7 I guess about 50-80 players in the US during off peak and 100 players during peak. If something isn't done soon this game will never recover.

No, what you've missed is the dozen or so other threads exactly like this one. It's just another take on the 'is RO dying' thread. RO2 has more people playing it now then RO did this time last year before the new game launch. So, RO2 isn't dying, on the contrary-- it has a larger population on average playing it then RO did. So, this argument that RO2 is a 'ghost town' is a misperception. TW is working on a number of new maps & vehicles. They'll come when they come.
Some people simply come off like spoiled children who are unhappy with all the shiny, brand new toys they've gotten on Christmas morning and still things aren't 'good enough' for them.

The only thing I meant about "Ghost Town" was that the community here and the player base now is less than it was a few months ago (I'm not comparing to previous RO's to this RO)

And if people are discouraged from having some harmless conversation and guessing games from time to time to keep things going until something new comes along for people to talk about, then fewer people will be posting in here and thus, head closer to being a ghost town.

I never said it was a ghost town "now."

You misunderstood my thread.

I am not obsessing about anything, I play the game twice a week, when I have time. I am more active on forums due to being an I.T.

The reason of my thread is purely optimistic to counter the negative posts. Not to crazy about labeling this as another RO2 is dying.

I am looking for people's predictions on positive outcome of the after patch, after new trailer and free weekend.

Mostly because during OST Front, I have seen 2 new trailers a year showing off the new free content updates.

Looking forward to the same, and who knows I was expecting to maybe have a dev give us a small hint on the near future plan.

You misread the first post.

To answer your question about future population-- I don't believe RO2 will get much past 2,000 players on average at any one time. The RO franchise is a niche market. It's historical, which only appeals to an X amount of players, and it presents some very difficult gameplay on the front end-- which many people have difficulty accepting.
I would guess that the majority of the loss of population fairly soon after launch were people who had read how good RO was, and wanted to try the sequel. After they got killed continually in their first few hours of gaming-- they gave the game up as 'too hard'. Well, it's a very hard game. Even with free weekends & new marketing-- the difficulty of the game acts as a process of selection of players who are patient enough to play it. So, there may not be much gain of players from that. It would be nice to hear some good feedback from the broader gaming community, however.
So, when classic is released from beta, I think they'll be some upswing in players-- but not much. Those people who wanted a classic mode or nothing at all, will only play on those servers that offer the classic mode. There are clans out there like TaT who continue to largely only play on RO at their server there. It'll be interesting if they finally shut that down, and move the 25-30 players to apartments in RO2 under the classic mode. They'll probably represent the largest amount of players in a single gain with classic-- if they decide to do that.
There isn't anything unusual about losing part of a population from a sequel. It happens everywhere. You'll lose a number of people who don't like the sequel for a variety of reasons--we've all heard them here ad nauseum.
Even with the loss of some players from RO1, the population on average is around double of what RO1 was. So, that tells me that there are alot of new players who have stuck with the game. The classic mode won't bring very many 'new' RO players in, but a fairly small number of the 'older' crowd.

Not a bad opinion.

Here is mine ;)

I think the biggest loss of people in the first months were due to mid range dual cores with mid range videocards or high end machines with serious performance issues.

All these peoples went to BF3 to see their midrange or high end gaming rigs flourish.

As for the game being hard, I own bf3 and I get owned in it.
BF3 is just as hard as RO2. RO1 was harder due to feeling slower and "clunky"
It is just all about getting used to the maps, like any other game.

I think a free weekend and new steam trailer will help a lot to get people giving it a second chance and getting new people in.

This time, the game runs really well on any midrange quad (Most gamers moved to this by now) and pretty well on a high end dual (E8400 - CoreI3)

I am hoping for an average of 1200 to 2200 people at all time (from lowest to highest peak)
And hopefully if it keeps going in the right direction, as BF3 offers more and more Expensive DLC's, people give RO2 another go...

Shouldn't you have to compare player numbers with the age of the game? I don't know how old RO1 is, I've never played it, but RO2 is now what, 7 months old? Compare how many players played RO1 when it was 7 months old?

I bought the game... And to be honest, I'm not a happy customer.
I'll check back for updates regularly, but I can't keep myself to play this game as often anymore. The beta is how I expected the game to be, but I at this moment I'm not motivated anymore to test the beta...

Cheers,

Thats what i was thinking allso. 500 players peaking on a brand new game isn`t that good..

lets just hope the classic mode will save this community

I never even heard of RO, and bought RO2. I think RO2 is great, I like the zoom ect. I've played the beta classic and find it annoying, it's like I'm running around drunk or something, feels like it's handicapped. For ppl like me, I wouldn't put alot of faith in the Classic mode saving the game.
Just sayin.

I'm betting alot of new players to the RO franchise feel the same as you. I'm also betting when classic comes out of beta, they'll be only set of people who only play classic, and another set of people who only play the realism mode.

thank you.... that's exactly how I feel about the RO Classic.... it's exactly how I felt about RO1 which is why I continued to play the mod long after RO1 was released.

It's not just new players who feel this way..... I as an old mod player feel the same way.

So many people in here keep going on about how great RO:Ostfront was/is and how everything should revolve around RO1..... yet there were two previous incarnations of RO before Ostfront.

Many of the things that got me into RO (RO:CA) got changed around and/or exaggerated in Ostfront.... and then RO2 comes back to make things a bit more fast paced, battles are more concentrated, maps weren't designed to be half a country in size to trek across until you get to the battle, then get shot, wait for spawn & do it all over again.

Now ROC is bringing much of that back and after I finally got used to the way RO2 plays and gotten used to the new features.... now ROC comes along and I find many of those new things no longer work and while I instinctively try to use the features I've been using for the last few months & they don't work, I sit there wondering if my keys were rebound and then I'm killed..... then I realize, oh yeah, i'm in ROC and half that stuff no longer works.

Some have made the claim that RO2 has an identity crisis...... well now with ROC, RO2 has split personality disorder and once it goes main stream, it's going to further cloud the server browser & frustrate new & old players..... unless they stick to one or two servers.

Myself, I tend to roam from server to server, depending on player counts, pings, maps and game modes..... now with another game mode added to the other game modes (FF/CD/TE - RR/R/ROC) it's going to be a mess for me.

Just saying.

If I wanted to twitch shoot, run and gun I would have purchased COD, BF, or loaded up CS:S. That's the gripe us old timers have with RO2 vanilla. It's just another generic shooter.

i refuse to touch the game until classic mode. in fact i hadnt played RO2 since december until i tried out the beta.

everytime i see some guy with an mp40/ii i would burst into tears. imo, the unlocks ruined the game experience for me the most.

excited for classic mode; the beta was really good. But i have games to keep me occupied in the mean time.

im glad you enjoy RO2 as is, but its not like theyre getting rid of realsim/relaxed. you're free to continue playing those modes even after teh release of classic.

the issue most vets had was the fact that they wernt accomodated. i knew TWI was going for mass appeal, and i didnt mind (i dont think anyone did), because we were constantly reassured that there would be a 'classic' mode to cater to us.
