Would it be possible to disable a tank's tracks with infantry grenades? I think it would be very realistic and would also allow normal grunts to somewhat combat armor more effectively.

I think that would be the only damage that a grenade(s) could do to a tank - to disable a set of the tracks. What do you guys think of this idea?

Also...anti-tank mines? Again - only for disabling/hindering the tank's movement. I suppose the engineer class would be issued these, but if they were to surface in HOS, who would remove them if it had to be done? Enemy/friendly engineers?

Post up your thoughts and opinions!

well normal infantry grenades, unless bundled are way too weak to seriously harm a tank's track

but mines on the other hand are even capable of destroying a tank

Hmmm...

Perhaps if something similar to this were introduced? http://www.pegatiros.com/reportajes/armas_infanteria/panzerknacker/Panzer6.jpg

It is a normal stick grenade with 6 other 'heads' fastened together for a more explosive punch.

I don't think it would be that difficult to separate the links of a tank tread with a high explosive grenade right on the target. For mines, the tank would have to roll its tracks directly over the mine. The explosion would then have to penetrate the tracks/wheels and then the armor to wreck havoc to the crew, ammunition, or the engine. I think more times than not, anti-tank mines simply 'derailed' the tank. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

unless you're able to jump onto tanks, open the hatch and drop a grenade in, then grenades would not do much damage.....unless it is a tin can tank from CC :D

Too much movies, too much movies Brendan. Explosion in hand grenades is
quite small. Explosing tank tracks needs a lot of explosion. Example tanks got High
Explosion projectiles, which are used just against infantry and bunkers, but
cant do much harm against tank. So they use AT-projectiles or
HEAT-projectiles against tanks.

AT-round is made by more thight metal than tank armor so it can penetrate it.
And HEAT-round smelt its way throught armor.

But on exlplosive round there is one big problem, because power of exlplosion is
based on its heat and air presure. And about air we know that
it goes to there, where its easiest to expand, so it needs a heck of lot air presure
that it will move tracks away from its furrow.

Does anyone know about magnetic charges? Were they used frequently and were they any effective?

they were avalible in quite some numbers for the germans
and if you got close enough to place them on the tank they were highly effective
something like 240mm penetration ability

A magnetic charge is just a shaped charge, iirc. That's the same kind of warhead a HEAT shell uses, as well as what the bazooka, panzerfaust, panzerschreck, and rpg-7, etc use. Shaped charge weapons can penetrate quite a lot of armor (more than a foot of steel, under ideal circumstances).

Forgive me if this is what you meant, but HEAT is an acronym which stands for High Explosive Anti-Tank, meaning a round which uses a shaped charge to force a jet of metal through the armour.
