Grain Elevator and Barracks are my two most favorite maps so far.

You just need people who have half a brain and a tiny idea of what Territory is.

Love this map.. as others have said both teams need at least one or two folks willing to step up and direct the zerg:)

For the germans the key is the first cap to get some momentum going and the bottom floor cap in the silo if you can get inside and control the ground floor the rest is easy

Overall great map, but tbh like any of these new maps, without a at least a squads worth of folks on your side working as a team, it really isn't fun to play whack a mole camping games :(

I think I played this map for 20 rounds or so on Axis side yesterday and we got raped every single time.
No, it wasn't the team - we steamrolled the Allies on every other map - but the map is just so biased towards the defenders.
It really wasn't any fun at all.

I've lost count of how many times I've been shot while having spawned for less than a second or having taken less than 1 step out of out spawn.
Having spawns where you need smoke grenades to exit them without getting shot right a way is proof of poor map design for me.

From a map & design POV, the map is stunning but from an Axis gameplay POV - not so much.

I enjoy this map a lot really. Most the time when i've played it the Germans have got to the 3rd cap point. Also the quite frequently decide to camp on the steps at the main building for any russians at all.

When i played it last night on oldgits Realism server as russian i was tked 6 odd times, as i go onto the roof at the first cap point then pow shot by my sniper. He did that a few more times. Another running back to spawn pow shot by a rifleman, and last time going up to the top of the main building to clear out some germans i was shot again by a different sniper....

But i have to say i haven't tried the map from the Axis attacking, so can't judge on that. But the map i think is excellent and so far the best one in the Beta.

This is just revenge for all of those rough games on Apartments playing as Allies. :D

It is only amplified for the worst when you have a team that doesnt work well together. (as attackers)

^That's a comment I've also been reading a lot ingame.

-"Oh this map is so epic & great 'n ****"
*"Have you tried playing it from the Axis side yet?"
-"No."

I will have to try it on Axis side later, just when ever i've joined the Allies have always have less people on them.

@SucculentHeadCrab: That goes for any map. On the same server on Barracks we had a terrible team on Russian, i was the only one who attempted to get to Cap C to retake it whilst all the rest of the team just sat and did nothing.

I never found apartments that bad really, only two games we just couldn't get anywere really.

NO!

Grain elevator is an awesome map, it's the players that are awful!

Like any RO1 map, winning is not possible without teamwork, and players who are in the important roles (mainly squadleaders) are supposed to do their damn job in it. That means to MAKE your men move into the damn capzone, it is not hard to do if you can make it to the construction site, and reaching that is not hard if you use smoke.

With smoke the defenders are going to have a hard time hitting the germans as they rush across, the squad leaders can resupply more smokes in the construction site, throw smoke towards the tower and if the german team has any balls they should have little problem taking it, with grenadespam or good smgs.

From there the advantage is on the german side because they have plenty of ways to enter the elevator and can attack from all sides if they enter the building through the conveyor belt.

It is not the map that needs adjusting, players just have to learn how to play it properly, and not picking roles they don't know how to use

I like grain elevator for the variety it offers. as the end gameplay in the building is vastly different from the early gameplay. However it is currently too difficult for the axis and too easy for the allies.

Sure you can win if you play loads better than the opponent. But with two teams of equal skill you should have a 50% chance to win the map and that is far from the current case.

Well, as I remember correctly, there are two spawning possibilities. One from where you have to run directly towards the elevator building and another one where it is possible to go for the building from the side. If you choose the second alternative you'll mix up the Russian defence lines pretty fast.

Until now I played the map just as axis, but with the usage of both spawns and smoke grenandes the axis team was mostly able to reach the doors of the elevator within 5 minutes.
But there is one thing which makes me rage over and over: the limitation of the map edges. I think there has to be an earlier warning if you leave the battle zone or join a protected zone because this borders change everytime an objective is capped. At the moment you see the warning, only thing you can do is to yell out: "shiiiat", and you die directly. I can deal with it but it's rather annoying, because on the minimap/press m map it's not obvious if an area is restricted to go in or not. A better highlightening of those zones would be damn nice. :)

I think the cap zones need to be worked on. It's hard as hell to find them. Once you find them, it's hard as hell to get in them. Spawns could be tweaked, too. I think Russians should start upstairs. Just my opinion.

Maybe more waist-height cover in the main approach would help. As it is, you have to flank, and 90% of the time I get melee killed or melee kill someone. Not nearly as fun as a face to face shootout in cover.

But it's freaking gorgeous, and it looks so cool inside. Kudos TW for getting in there in the first place and also for rendering it so nicely.

Maps like this are the reason why I simply cannot play RO1 or RO2 on random servers. It requires teamplay, and that is not something you will find on the average pub server. In RO1 I found a few servers in which the core population was made up of serious clan members and mature regulars; i.e people who knew how to play properly. I remember when I came back to RO1 after a long break, and my fav servers were gone. It really put me off RO for a time, because the gameplay in the populated servers I tried was really bad, except on a few lucky occacions. Luckily I found a proper server again.

The point is, RO games depends very much upon the teams. So poor gameplay is often caused by poor players, not poor game design. That is why I only find the game fun on certain servers, with the right kind of people on them. On the other hand, when you are in a server with people who know how to play the game (i.e. objectives are more important than kills!), RO is simply much more enjoyable than any other FPS out there.

The Germans could really do with more cover in between the first 2 cap zones.
With the field of fire the Allies get from all those windows, the entire zone near the Axis spawn turns into 1 huge killing field.

Either add more cover or give the Allies less windows to fire from, limiting their FOF more.

First i want to thank the tripwire team to show up these new maps before the game comes out i think that show some issues you guys certainly can resolve.

These maps are very very nice well detailed etc...

But on grain elevator i felt extremely bad (as a german maily) first dont feel insulted (normally you should) if i say that youre maps are kinda call of duty like (omg i said it).

It is horrific to play grain elevator because you get constantly spawn raped on this map the soviets have many places to do such thing it feels like the map is too big and too small at the same time because the highest positions gives a huuuuge advantage to the defenders and too small because of a terrible lack of cover and the lack of cover ( i think a larger protected area could help) makes the elevator itself almost unreachable (i dont know if its correct if not forgive my english im french).
I think we could even say it is omaha beack like until the team reaches the first floor of the elevator (in like 10 games on it i never been any further than that cuz once the german team realize they died like 5 time coming out of the spawn they begin to camp and its already over)
Allright thats just how i feel like now but with a bit of teamplay it might be a bit better.

There is this awesome mechanic in the game, it's called a smoke grenade. Use it.

Ok guys nobody said the map sucked only the map design kinda sucks while playing on german side especially the spawn area.
You feel it real quick when you step out of the spawn i swear...

So dont post comment like "wow this map is awesome, great etc..." we dont care if you just play as russians the discussion is about german side.

And i also would like to say it is ugly to look at the surronding environment of the map while being on russian side on the top of the silo its a complete no mans land...

Yes more cover on the first two is great idea, but I have seen the Axis win ONCE so far.

But it only worked through painful squad leader coordination and massive meat shield rushes into the second cap.

I brought up the idea of spamming grenades right before moving into the cap zone, like Assault Grenadiers in Company of Heroes. It sorta worked.

Lots and lots of dead nades.

I think you already gave the answer, wit a good amount of teamplay this map is awesome.
Personally I think it is one of the best maps I've seen

Yeah, but with no one using voice chat it's impossible to let your squad leaders and commanders know how agonizingly inept they are at throwing smoke and facilitating assaults. This is my real problem with this game. It is based around organized team play, yet 95 % of people run around like lone wolves going for kills.

I played Grain Elevator with 64 people once, and we could literally not get out of our spawn. It was sad. Because if just a fraction of those people had cooperated we would have easily taken the objectives outside. I need to get into a clan, but I find it mind-boggling that people think they can play realistic shooters without communication and team work.

If the everybody on the German team except MGs and the sniper goes for the second objective with proper smoke cover it's a piece of cake. I know, because I have won several times as a German. The real problem is Germans camping in the first objective with every 'assault' consisting of two or three people.

Grain elevator is a brilliant map....you just need to wait till enough people know that capping is better than killing random stuff as soon as you got 4-5 germans in cap things go really bad for the russians pretty fast...if you then manage to cap t he second floor you push their supplies down to 0 within a minute.
Making the 4th floor a fight for survial for the left russian really really a great map...but challanging and maybe unpossible with random teams (for the time being with pople not caring or caps)

I hated it at first too, then I figured out a few good paths and spots to wait at while taking OBJ's, went from barely being able to keep the first OBJ to usually being able to blaze through the first 2 OBJ's without firing a shot, it only works if smoke grenades are thrown at the right spot though. I tend to grab the first OBJ and then hop in the window and melee the line of people that are staring out the windows facing the spawn, just an added bonus.
