It really depends on the condition of the trench.

Most trenches were under a lot of artillery fire and would end up looking that rubble like in the photo. A newly built trench could look pretty uniform/decent like the trenches in the game.

It also depends on who built the trench. For example the french trenches were know to be very primitive up untill the end of the war. Then on the other hand you had the german trenches which were the best built and most complex trenches in WW1. That's why the allies had so much trouble breaking through german defenses on the western front because the german trenches were very heavily defended and extraordinary well built.

Ww1 mod is good idea for RO2. Your idea is to try to balance team. It's make ww1 wrong. "Low reinforcements" and "Long respawn timer" are not good ideas. In defense we can have "High reinforcement" and also "Short Respawn timer". Ww1 mod with theses ideas will become quickly a "Rambo game" : i mean a guy with mg shooting on wave of enemy, no ?

So directly create a game 10 vs 50 ? But remenber a game with 30v30 keep to be interresting also.

If we take the realistic approach Danh's suggestions are pretty good. Altough the forces were even in terms of reinforcements most of the times, sometimes the defenders had MORE reinforcementes than the attackers. Also your fear with the mod getting "rambo-ish" is pretty unreasonable because nearly every machinegun used in WW1 was way too heavy to hip-fire.

No one ran around with a machine gun in ww1. WW1 was more a battle of attrition. They had all the advance technology for offense and defense but they still used 19th century tactics such as forming lines and just shooting at each other until the other army retreats.

The only reason I am giving the defenders low reinforcements and long respawn is because they have nice trenches and many defenses.

Attackers will generally have almost no cover and have to keep charging the frontlines until they break through.

First I want to say: "Great work!"
I'm quite impressed since there aren't really many games about WWI and I'd love to see this mod finished.

Here a little suggestion and question of my side(to Juicy):

Had a bit of a minor breakthrough today and found out how to convert tripwire's PSK file format to OBJ

Oh man that is great! I'm so happy to see this mod progress.
How the maps should be balanced is nothing to worry about yet, its all up to the mappers do decide.
Good luck again!

OK I've re-made the German infantryman, still needs a bit of work, but now I'm starting to use Tripwires own textures and models, as I get more experience using the SDK, just remodelled them slightly and re-did the textures to suit ww1, changed the weebing configuration again to suit ww1 and re-modelled the helmet, I'm much happier with these guys, so here's a couple of new screenies.

Basically finished with this model, I'll make a few variants, NCO, Officer, puttees and ankle boots, forage cap and so on.

Started re-working the tripwire model to make a British infantryman, got lots to do on the rather complex webbing arrangement, loads of straps and buckels to model, decided to give this model a hessian covered helmet rather than a peaked cap, might take me some time to do, but here's the start.

Thanks, here's a bit more detail on the Brit models, also, Dahn has made our first demo map so things are moving swiftly, once I'm finished with these the hard bit starts, getting them in game, as I'm a noob to the sdk, luckily we've got some help in that department though.

Wow you guys are really smashing this together quickly. Models, Test map, I guess all that leaves are the weapons.

Cion_god,

As soon as I get round to making the specs and normal maps, I'll send you the package, if you can do the bones and get them in game, that would be a massive step forward. I know the other guys had a play around with Dahn's demo map last night, I had some download problems myself, so I couldn't make it, but if we can get the models off to him once packaged, we should be able to have a working demo map plus ww1 player models pretty soon.

He is, he reckons he is able to get them in game, no problem, if you can do the bones then pass them on to BB, job done!
