Wait, what.
May or may not be a "Good enough mod to be sold with part of the profits going to TW and part going to the mod makers". Or that's how I understood it.

Not that I get this thread, people say stupid **** on the internet all the time.

Maybe his past experience with expansions is the lazy overpriced expansions for BF1942, BF2142 and BF2 that were released early while the games were still being polished.

As with most criticism, he is making stuff up and assuming it to be true. Typical "Tripwire lied to us/Took my money/Took my girlfriend who is of the opposite sex" victimisation from people who did not study the given information and made their own assumptions how things were supposed to be.

Wait, what.
Dont you remember JG saying if the mod is REALLY/REALLY good they will bring it in house, polish it and release it as paid DLC,if the mod is only GOOD then it will be free DLC.

I rather be really really good and pay 15 bucks for a new awesome mod and hopefully 8 maps + this mod will bring in new content for free down the road.

dont forget Vietnam and WW1 mods will be free for sure,if they ever get to be fully completed.

Wait, Rising Strom will cost money; when the f*** did this happen?

and with that my interest level just plumeted down to 0%

Was looking forward to it as well; im a huge pacific theater buff. My grandfather fought there as a F4U pilot, so it runs in the family lol

TWI couldnt even polish their own game, why would they even consider this?

Let's not kid ourselves, mate. We all know that we'd pay for Rising Storm as long as it was solidly put together. It's not like WWII buffs have a lot of options for decent shooters.

Besides, TWI -isn't- doing the work on it, at least not yet. They have plenty of their own work. If the -modders- do a good enough job, TWI will balance it to their specs and release it. If it's not spectacular already, they won't.

It's really simple, if this mod plays like a mod I won't pay for it.

If this mod is a total conversion that equals or tops the quality of the main game with enough content to justify it being an "expansion pack", then I am glad to pay for it.

Which is basically what they're going to do. If it's mod quality, it's going to be priced like a mod (i.e. free). If it's expansion-pack quality, they'll treat it like an expansion pack.

What does that even mean? There is no clear cut line between an expansion and a mod beyond that one is official and costs money.

Usually the quality, as a mod is usually made by a bunch of dudes working for free and an expansion pack is official content made by the same people who made the original content.

There's actually a pretty big difference. Expansion packs expand on the original content significantly, usually introducing new gameplay mechanics, significantly more gameplay time (5-10 hours for most SP stuff), and whatnot. Mods are usually based using the existing content and game mechanics, expanding with new maps and models to build on what's already there rather than introducing something new.

Perhaps if it was well made

I love WW2 shooters, but im not gonna just buy them blindly. And considering i payed $20 (which im teetering on the edge of regret) for RO2, im not will to spend too much on mods.

Even if RS was crafted at the forge of the gods in mount Olympus, and was ordained by the blood of a thousand virgins by christ himself, i think the max i'd be willing to go would be $5; this is only if receives critical acclaim by the community.

There are plenty of other free expansions so im not about ready to pay for one unless it really deserves it. DH was outstanding, and it was free; lets see if it can top that.

Im not a graphics wh0re but lets be honest here, from the videos the visuals look rather horrendous (i dont know if they are final or not); they'd probably be better off modding WaW...

Mate. If you paid $20 for a game that took 5+ years (to the best of my memory, I'm no TWI buff) to develop, how in the world are you teetering on the edge of regret? In case you haven't noticed, most games cost $60, with expansions usually at least half of that price. You paid 1/3rd of that with multiple mods already in production that will equal, if not out shine, the quality of an expansion for most other shooters and you get them for free (With the possible exception of RS.)

How in the world you are teetering on the edge of regret by paying $20 for this game is beyond me.

Alright, everyone who gets to test Rising Storm, say it sucks so we get for free! :D

Or not and give all the modders who have tired on it thus far a chance to make a % off the sales, and a huge addition to their resume.

Criticize TWI left right and center on all the things you like, but I wont hear a criticism over their actions toward supporting a mod team and extending this chance to the modding community. (YES I know you were joking, but I just had to say this ).

Lol, it's so badly worded and he/she doesn't even try to give it a semblance of factual evidence.

I really wish people in this world had the sense to ensure what they say is actually true rather than spouting false nonsensical crap, well I guess that's the way people are on the internet.

in this thread, idiots. lol cept for the people trying to tell the idiots whats really going on.

Rising STorm team has had the SDK before the game even came out TWI has been working with them to help them achieve an amazing thing, they want RS to be the Darkest Hour for RO2. But if it really is amazingly good enough they will help them ship it as a retail product so they get paid.
