Joking aside, I sincerely hope they put in hit decals for body shots.

It's not like we're asking for Soldier of Fortune levels of violence.

This thread only lasted 1 1/2 pages.

As long as it isn't Unreal Tournament where the bodies gib from a railgun shot I'll be happy.

You guys have to remember what a bullet is. It is a tiny metal smooth object that is being thrown 1000's of fps. Whenever I hear people talking about gore or see it in the majority of video games ot seems that the people or developers seem to think that the bullet is.. well I don't even know how to describe it. It just doesn't feel like a bullet that is being shot, more like a blunt yellow object that is hitting wood, not flesh.

Like it has been said in my first post..... we have seen dismemberment, blood splat on walls, blood puff on hit, We have been told it will have entry/exit wounds.

My explanation for the gore in l4d2 is, they're rotted/rotting bodies. They basically fall apart with a little force like a bat.

if they're rotten, they couldn't possibly move as that requires live cells to circulate their body.

basically, your explanation(which i'm sure is their official one as well) is just an excuse to have this gimmicky and imo cartoon-like gore to appease the fans.

Some have touched on the subject of death animations/ragdolls, and I think that is a very good point. RO1 has some very impressive rag-dolls, but what would be really cool (and impossible at this point) would be to use the Europhia animation software. If you have played GTAIV or Red Dead Redemption you have seen this at work. It will generate, in real-time, animations based on external forces (physics). For example, when Nico is drunk his stagger is a predetermined variable, but tripping over things, or loosing control of his inertia is all physics based. The engine creates animations based on you tripping over the sidewalk, and things like that look very natural and "un-canned".

From some of the videos released the rag-dolls look similar to RO1's, but again that was all very early footage and it looked like some glossing over was to be done.

Euphoria is awesome in GTAIV and RDR (and presumably LA Noire when that comes out) it'd be great to see in a war game/FPS.

euphoria is just an overrated blended animation system. you can do that with scripting and havok as well. that overgrowth video shows you don't need fancy expensive middleware to create realistic looking death animations.

that fact that feces like gta4 and rdr uses it doesn't give it much credibility either.

You could do alot of awsome stuff with euphoria styled systems. And not just the getting killed/getting shot animations, it would also enhance alot of existing animations, too!

Things like enter/exit animations for vehicles. (Jumping over doors, climbing over back. I don't know)
Stumbling/falling over (it happens).
Medical systems. (You get hit in the leg, you get a proper medical system to heal that part)
Reloading, Clearing jams/changing barrels.
Posture of weapons and people depending on surroundings.
Collision (Obviously, but being able to see your person react, in first person, to running into a wall or something would be awsome)
Hand-to-hand combat.
Dragging/moving items (Kicking over a table anyone?)

Whilst it would be awsome. it would be too much work for what is essentally a 'gimmick', and we will have a long wait before seeing anything worthwile of use with a system like Euphoria.

However we can always pray .. :IS2:

if you use euphoria for more than 2 or 3 of those things you listed, the game will look like crap.

animations are a very precise thing, you're not going to properly simulate it with some stupid collision and simple grappling that euphoria has.

motion capture ftw.

I'd like more information about the gore in ROHOS. A bit petty asking about it considering the scope of the game, but still, RO is a series where getting kills is truly rewarding and nothing is more rewarding than having a visual feedback of your quick reflexes and sharp aim in the form of a bloody mess.

So far what I've read is that the motto of "if it's in real life, it's in this game" holds true for gore, articles that commented on it said it was pretty brutal. Given the complex bullet physics and its interaction with flesh in the game I'm expecting at the very least 2d blood decals appearing on the body, with larger calibers causing some sort of dismemberment, not necessarily anything on the level of Left 4 Dead 2 or (oh man that would be awesome) Soldier of Fortune 2, but something noticeable.

"if it's in real life, it's in this game"

You dont go around and shoot arms and legs off from the rest of your body... that only happens in games & TV do maybe you shouldnt quote that text.
