Is there a tutorial out there somewhere for weather actors? I can't seem to get it to rain.

Thanks

Or you can do what I did on an experimental map one time. Just copy and paste the weather actors from RO-Hedgehog or RO-Baksan Valley into your map and then rebuild. ;)

Thanks guys. I see what the problem is now. I didnt add a skin in the display settings of the weather actor. There needs to be a emitter texture there for the rain drops.

also if your using vehicles (Clown car and t34 especially) you will need to increase the radius of the weather around the player or you'll outrun it :D

Ok -- thanks Axel.

Speaking of weather -- has anyone experimented with weather and larger maps? I was thinking of a larger tank map with rain. I am wondering how horribly the weather actor will affect online game performance.

the way the weather works, is it actually just holds a storm cloud above each player's head and thats the weather they see. So beyond a certain radius there actually is no rain on the map (I think).

I think that Black Day in July uses rain and its a rather large tanking map.

also if your building a raining tank map, be sure to add the sound of rain on metal to the tank actor so that you can hear the rain hitting the outside of the tank while you're manning the tank ;)

OK. Thanks again Axel and Shurek.

I Also need to remember to do NoRain volumes about all the interior spaces.

On the rain on metal -- good idea. Thanks. I am wondering how obnoxious the sound of rain is to players playing on rain maps. It all looks cool and sounds great during map testing, but during actual game play I am wondering if the constant drone of the rain beating down will prove to be too much of an annoyance to players. Along the same lines -- I wonder if the rain drops will be to distracting and hard on the eyes during game play.

Any opinions or thoughts regarding past rain maps and this sort of thing?

Also -- on a totally different note, but has anyone done an SU-85 mod for RO?

no I don't believe anybody has done an SU-85 (well they haven't released it if they have) When adding the pat pat pattering sound to the tanks, just experiment with volumes of the sounds then get in the tank to make sure that you can hear them, but that they sound somewhat distant (it is outside the tank) Also don't worry about rain looking annoying, if you do it correctly it shall be beautiful no matter what.

I say go for it. It will give the players a chance to test there skill.

Ok. Thanks Axel and Justus. I'm gonna go ahead with the rain actor. It looks promising, but I still need to tweak the rain drop input info a bit till I get the look I want.

The map is close to completion. I'll prolly post a beta version of the thing next week.
