Getting a new video card

Ok, the X1800XT is better than the 7800GTX, read benchmarks...
I was looking for an upgrade, not the best available card.

Unless you're buying at best buy for the security of being able to return it right away if its defective, definitely give the online shops a try.
Thanks! I will look into that also.

This is true. However, you'll probably have an easier time finding a GTX atm.

Really, for most games the difference in these cards is negligible.

This is not true. They are pretty much the same, but with the 7800 cards being MUCH cheaper.
When it comes to the X1800XL, the 7800GT has it comprehensively beaten, both in terms of speed and price.

(This is NOT my auction, nor do I know whose it is, but: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=45&threadid=1664886&enterthread=y
Used 7800GT for $325, you might be able to find others around that are second hand, and quite a lot cheaper (obviously) than new cards, so you can save yourself a bit of $$$)

So I bought one. :p

Here are the lovely results for $219usd

I'm currently running the card at 520/540 (X850XT core/mem speeds) @ 36C thanks to the arcitc cooling vga silencer I slapped on it.

Long story short, this is a damn good card. Could have bought 2 for the price of 1 X850XT PE. :D

My one regret is that it does not support shader model 3.0, but I think I'll get over it. :p
