I am talking about the NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT specifically. Now, my last Nvidia card was the FX5200. So that left a bad taste in my mouth, but I read a review about the 7800 and it seems like it is a great card. Would anyone else recommend it? Or is there an ATI equivalent that is somewhat cheaper.

Alright cool, I looked it up on Best Buy and their price seems to be set at $399.99 Now all I need to do is who to give my 9800 Pro to

One thing I forgot. The GTX is PCI Express only so if you have an older motherboard I guess you're looking at the straight GT. I think it has an AGP version. Might be wrong, so you'd better check.

Unless you're buying at best buy for the security of being able to return it right away if its defective, definitely give the online shops a try.

Used 7800GT for $325, you might be able to find others around that are second hand, and quite a lot cheaper (obviously) than new cards, so you can save yourself a bit of $$$)

If you want a decent upgrade without breaking the bank, look into either an eVGA 6800GS or a Sapphire X800GTO

Every Sapphire GTO2 has a R480 core according to those sources. Granted I dont have much proof, but all the sources point toward that conclusion.

So I bought one.
Here are the lovely results for $219usd
Before and after pics of the pipe mod:
I'm currently running the card at 520/540 (X850XT core/mem speeds) @ 36C thanks to the arcitc cooling vga silencer I slapped on it.
Long story short, this is a damn good card. Could have bought 2 for the price of 1 X850XT PE.
My one regret is that it does not support shader model 3.0, but I think I'll get over it.
