Hey thanks for the effort Bolt... but, he is walking away from the scene. So you accidently put the beard on the back of his head
Athena - The movie is called 'The Sword of Doom' by Kihachi Okamoto.
Something you probably dont know about me is I'm really into Samurai and the Bushido Code. The whole idea of warriors that lived a higher code is really appealing to me. I've been into Samurai as long as I can remember (i despise ninja.. sneaky-no-honor-kill-you-in-your-sleep-kind-of-scoundrels).
Here is a nice essay about the film -
http://www.criterion.com/asp/release.asp?id=280&eid=405§ion=essay - excerpt 'Ryunosuke (lead character) is the archetypal fallen angel of early modern Japan, a figure who elicits sympathetic identification by the uncompromising intensity with which he follows his path, even if the path seems to lead into darkness.'

...aaand here is the poster that I gleaned my sig from -
I've watched tons of Samurai films. All of Kurosawas masterpieces, Zatoichi so on and so forth.. The Sword of Doom is by far my favorite and I highly recommend everyone watch it even if you arent into old Samurai flicks. It's so dark and brooding. Really heavy material that is so well acted out by the whole cast - especially the lead role who happens to be none other than Tatsuya Nakadai (he has been in many, many Samurai films). Just the eyes alone of Ryunosuke tell a thousand stories. Also, the most badass of Samurai to ever have graced the silver screen, Toshiro Mifune, is also in the film. Of course Mifune is an actor not a real Samurai, but when you think Samurai in a movie sense - it's him. He's the quintessential movie Samurai.
My favorite quote from the movie.. spoken by Mifunes character Shimada -
"The sword is the soul. Study the soul to know the sword. Evil mind, evil sword."
