I don't think theres much use in handing those out on maps with a range of less than 300. Because you really don't need any aid at short distances. Though on the larger maps in the future this would be a very welcome addition.

When you kill someone, you get the report of how far your target was when you killed him. Over time, a lot of players will learn how far certain areas of the map is from where they are standing. And as most firefights take place within 100m~ in RO2, a range finder isn't that necessary and there are more important things to add in/fix in RO2 like more tanks, bug fixes, etc. But it would be an interesting addition to RO2 for tank maps.

1) Put a shot into a distant wall.
2) Is your shot above or below where you aimed?
3) Adjust sight accordingly
4) Profit

and in the process lose your greatest asset...location.

For snipers it would be awesome to dial in a range rather than gues with a range finder.

And for tanking....range finder i am sure would have almost been standard equipment.....I was actully wondering if on the german tank the view finder on the left the cannon was a range finder...maybe it is and i dontknow how to use it.

Like others have said, play a lot and you'll be able to guess fairly correctly on your own. With the much larger maps, however, the range finders will be useful.
