German AT-rifle MPZB 41

There shouldn't be any sort of "weapon balancing". The Germans don't need something to compete with a PTRD, they had there own weapons that they used in much greater numbers.

Just as long as I get my steilhandgranate bootlaced to a teller mine, I'm happy.

/anti-dev sentiment

Protip for fanboys: German nouns are always capitalized.
Protip 2: Use Stielhandgranate and Tellermine if you are in character.

What is it with RO2 and super rare weapons? This is supposed to be a military simulation, not some spy game.

I'm pretty sure TWI isn't making a sim. It's definitely more realistic than the mainstream games, but I'm pretty sure they're shooting for something less sim-like than ARMA.

Besides, I'm sure there are enough hardcore realism folks out there, they'll have no rare weapons servers running.

If I had a server I would have no or very limited hero weapons, and the leveling system would affect what classes you have access to but not how you look, your appearance should depend on the map, no raw German recruits in January 43.

ARMA 2 might widely be considered a military sim, but honestly I can't think of a game that is less immersive when it comes to shooting people. The game looks great, it's huge, and there is alot of player freedom when it comes to load outs and ways to attack objectives. That said, I find the infantry movement system so incredibly clunky that it is anything but immersive. ARMA2 is typically at its most impressive to me when I'm doing anything but shooting people.

From what I've seen so far, I think RO2 is going to go leaps beyond ARMA2 when it comes to first person immersion and weapon usage. Perhaps it will never be seen as a "sim" to the ultra-hardcore-2%-of-all-gamers community, but if it's more fun and more immersive, I'm on board.

I would call Red Orchestra 2: HOS a "sim-light" game. It's got all the elements to make it look and feel like you're really there, without all the bloat that comes with going full 100% hardcore sim. ie, A proper ArmA mission might have you travelling 10 kilometers before you so much as hear a gunshot. Tripwire was just gracious enough to spawn us just outside the battlefield. :D

I would say RO is a war game. It's made to feel like you're fighting in a war. You aren't pretending to be Specialist Happynuts going on patrol on a fictional island.

Bit off topic here, but I don't think just sim = immersion. For example, I recall when people were comparing MS Combat Flight Sim 3 with IL-2, I would argue IL-2 felt more immersive, while many argued CFS3 had more realistic flight characteristics, and hence was more of a Simulation.

And just because something is more accurate or realistic, doesn't mean it'll be more fun. I have WAY more fun playing ROOST than ARMA II, for example. I thought I wanted 100% realism, but if it's clunky, it's just not as fun.

Hate all this hate over an in game weapon. The answers to all your questions arent in a book. There may very well have been these weapons around but it might not be documented.
Also just because a book says its penetration is X at Y distance doesnt make it so. So many things can go wrong or right in war and its naive to think that you have all the answers because you found some numbers on a webpage.

You might think that this weapon is obsolete, but were you there to test it? Id rather have one than throw my helmet at a tank.
You could hit the optics , ruin the barrel break , miss and kill stalin 10 miles away by accident. So many things can happen that arent written in the "manual".

Also heavy rifles were used to shoot at bunkers and hit people behind walls etc.

Before you go "lol who is this idiot he doesnt even watch history channel", remember, it wasnt well documented that german soldiers were using ppsh's but they were. It was well documented that russian soldiers used mp40s but they did. So is it that unbelievable that some guys might have used heavy rifles in a combat situation....
LOL
