I retract my earlier negativity about this series, just watched ep.1 and its great, so I'm going to continue watching

In a similar vein, anyone seen "The Mark of Cain"? I saw it last week and it was really strong on me, moved me a lot.

He survived throat cancer. A side effect is the badass voice. The actor actually nailed that role, it's pretty great.

And the beep should be the least of your worry if you're out in the desert...

This is answered in one of the later episodes. The marines were not allowed to leave their humvees ...

I really like the series, HBO makes good stuff

I know a guy who worked on the set in South Africa. Apparently they had no problem getting the MG's, 40mm and explosives into the country, but for the left hand drive Humvees they had to get special permission from a minister.

The two real marines on set also spent every morning trying to get the Humvees to start...
