Hello,
I bought Red Orchestra due to the sale and played it over the weekend.
I must say, I am impressed at the realistic quality of this mod. I love the aiming system, and the ability to drive and interact with vehicles.
However, there are a few things that detract from overall quality:
The K98k:
I have a K98k. I'm fairly astute in it's nomenclature.
In-game, the K98k's front sight hood is a little too tall, I'd say about one third again the height of the real sight hood. The roundness is fine I'd say just reduce the length of the flat sides and you're good to go. This goes for the G43 as well.
As far as function, when you are empty and you try to chamber a new round, the bolt gets held back by the magazine follower.
The stripper clips, although it may work, you don't need to grab the top round to push them into the magazine. You simply put the clip in the holder, and shove them all down with your thumb in one smooth action, then close the bolt. The stripper clip will eject off, sometimes with a slight ring.
The stripper loading for the Mosin is fine, those stripper clips SUCK and they are very hard to load, I may actually try and use your method to see if it works any better.
[EDIT]
Also, In real life a K98k shoots high at 100 - 200m. At 300m it almost evens out. If the sight hood was a normal height, POI should be halfway between the tip of the front sight post and the top of the sight hood. I realise this would require ballistic simulation to make it even back out at around 300m, however it would be a realistic factor in gameplay because its harder to shoot at something when you don't have a definate aiming point.
The K98k Scoped:
The only thing wrong here is the reticle. You copied the Russian reticle to the German scope. Although they are similar they arn't duplicates.
For example: The top angle of the German center post should be about 90 degrees. The distance of the point of the center post to the edge of the side post should be approximately 18" at 100 meters. The width of the black lines should be 1/3 that.
The German reticle allowed for range finding, if the person's shoulders made up that width, he was 100 meters away, if it was half that, 200 meters and so on.
Here's a picture through my scope:
The Mosin Nagant: (I also own one of these)
It appears as though when the gun fires, the entire bolt moves forward. This isn't accurate. The bolt has a rear section that moves seperately from the rest of the bolt and acts as a sort of hammer with a firing pin attached. There seems to be very little else wrong with the Mosin.
That's all I have came up with for now, friendly suggestions intended to help enhance the quality of the game.
Nice game overall, I enjoy playing it very much.
Thanks.
(P.S. The characters shaking around like meth addicts is annoying too.
