Yeah, ammo prices are crazy now. I have a few thousand dollars worth of ammo now, but I only paid a few hundred for it four or five years ago!

I was buying at the right time and stacked them deep.

... but it also maybe another form of gun control, if they can't take away our guns, they'll take away our ammo!

Going off topic...

This is why I am buying my .22LR now. I would imagine that my $18 box will soon be $36 or so.

After CA's new law goes into place, I will not buy any more .22LR as it will be classified as pistol ammo. When that happens, records of all pistol ammo sales will be kept. And no mail ordering of it either. I won't bother with it.

At least the G-36 doesn't look ugly.

I still have some hope that AB962 will not ever actually take effect.

And of course, there's still some concern on whether or not it even actually bans internet sales at all ...

Buy used brass and reload.
No wait. Then the govt (US) will threaten to ban primers and primer prices will sky rocket.
No wait. They did that back in the '90's. I'm still sitting on quite a few cases. And all I do is plink now.

Excellent entry level progressive reloader (pistol calibers).
(and still about the same price as it was ~25 years ago)
Bought my Dad one. Before he passed away, he upgraded to the XL650 because he liked the Square Deal and Dillon's customer service so much.

Sometimes it's just supply and demand. 7.62x39 prices got nasty when the government bought up so much of it to give away to the Iraqis.

I can finally get a handgun, but it's a hell of a decision. I'm thinking either a 9mm Tanfoglio Witness full size steel frame with a 10mm conversion kit or a GLOCK 20 with a .22LR conversion kit for cheap plinking. Either way it's got to be 10mm Auto. Also planning on picking up a snub .38 with an enclosed hammer later on, if anyone has any recommendations.

Grip wise I like CZ-75s, 1911s and the FN FNP.

Too bad there are no cheap 9mm 1911s.

If I do get a pistol, it will be in .22LR and then 9mm. I can't afford anything more expensive than brass .223.

But like I said, I'd wait until AB962 settles down... hopefully it will get scrapped. If not, I am sure the ammo prices will go up as everyone will buy it all up regardless. I don't want to pay the high prices, so I'd just stick to rifles.

I just can't believe they included the cheap .22LR.:(

Also, does anyone know of any modern bolt action .22LR rifles for $200 or less new?

I don't know about my "favourite gun" but I have always been rather partial to the AK-74 for its aesthetic qualities. It pulls off the perfect balance of being a precise, modern instrument, while also looking Old World-ly and rugged. The muzzle break, the angle of the magazine, the notches in the stock... those sweet sweet orange magazines. Any time I see it in a film or a game, it steals my attention. I'm sweet on Annie K.

Spoiler!

(AKS-74s are also acceptable)

That Marlin looks nice.

I guess I will go to my gun store and ask about them. I'd want to put a scope on it. It can be great fun.

And I won't burn through ammo so quickly.

I think the reason why ammo prices are up 57029485823759257327532759285823759- is mainly because of rising metal prices around the world, but it also maybe another form of gun control, if they can't take away our guns, they'll take away our ammo!

Thats why I want to get into reloading, although its a complicated process, and usually the ammo works for the reloaders own gun but not for others in the same caliber.

I also want to save like several rounds from every box of ammo I shoot, and save it in a mini stockpile.
I've been reloading for quite a while and I have to say that it per round you get pay about half.

And reloaded ammo works for any gun, unless you have a surplus rifles that has a slightly oversized chamber (rimm locking rifles like the SMLE or the Mosin Nagants are notorious for this) and want to stick the cases into another gun that has a slightly smaller chamber.

Well I guy I know who reloads 45's only worked in his gun for some reason.

And about ammo prices, like I was saying, I think its another form of gun control, so guns aren't "banned", but it becomes a rich boys toy.

I'm just starting out reloading for my .303, going to work up some hunting loads with 150gr projectiles.

Every single thing to do with shooting is extremely over priced in Australia.

But the adjustable stock is a need and the G-36's integrated optics are antique by now.

They're ahead of you. Adjustable stocks and you can use any optic you want.

Too bad they don't make proper ones for cheap. If I could get a factory new G-36 for $1200 I would consider it.

There are some match pistols that shoot specialized ammo. I have a .45 cal Colt 58 match series that shoots a specialized round. Have to be careful when I take people out shooting that they don't grab just any magazine with .45's in it. I'll bet your friend has something similar.

The great thing about the Dillon progressive is that 'all' you have to do is buy a die set for each caliber you intend to load. Get the die set up like you want and its pretty much 'plug and play'. Loading new calibers in just a few minutes. Of course, there is always the one station at a time alternative if you don't load that many rounds at a time. You still have to buy the dies...

This looks somewhat old worldly and rugged, but also precise and modern - i bet at the time it was even more striking

rifle.jpg

....it's a shame it never made production, in hindsight phaps it should have.
sad really, looks fantastic and may have turned out to be one of the greats.

Wasn't the SA80 based in part off of this? If so then maybe it wasn't very good, the SA80 series certainly isn't.
