G5, diamondback, copperhead etc are all exellent mice, but they are expensive and will break if you sometime drop them on the floor.

MX518 has 2 thumb buttons, adjustable DPI and doesnt fall apart when you look at it. Its also cheaper than the alternatives.
Easy choise if you ask me. ;)

ive dug up an office 8k mouse, a bit like this..

avre_06874.jpg

...and the supplied office works software does not allow buttons 6+7 ( just in front of the wheel) and 8 just behind it to be programmed - and they cannot be detected in any game's control settings. They only offer a range of office functions i will never use.
Anyone aware of a work around, or mouse software that can be used to program these - esp. 6+7 which i'd like to try as lean buttons?

My mx revolution is not a gaming mouse either however, I was able to install "uber options" to use all 13 buttons available. Unfortunately I think uber options only works with setpoint.
That been said maybe try looking around the manufacturer's forums and see if you can find a similar solution there. Logitechs forums, sub forum mice, is where I stumbled across uber options. You might get lucky!

whats the rub with tilt wheel mice - anyone use one?

mx400 for example - does the wheel efectivly have 5 functions now?
Can you simply assign keys to tilt left and right with setpoint - or do they show as new functions ( eg 'mouse wheel left' or 'mouse button 6' )?
In the case of the latter, importantly, are they still recognised by modern games when you config controls?
Or is it yet more useless office function only crap?

using a MX510 scince 2003, still working great
had a G5 for a short period of time, one of the worst mice i ever had (broke after just one month)

best choice would be a MX518 imo

yeah i'm gutted i smashed up my mx510 as i said - 518 looks good but im really looking for a way to move leaning from the keyboard to the mouse (without sacrificing other buttons) as i find myself playing finger twister quite often sometimes.
Hense i was enquiring about the buttons 6+7 on the a4 office mouse (which would be perfect) or the tilt wheels on logi+ms mice.

I haven't found a way to bind the tilt function on my G5. Though I never really thought it about it...

so you didn't find an immediate way to bind the tilt, and it doesn't regester when setting keys in game options? I'd appreciate any info if you look into it further.

looks cool but hang on , aren't they over

The G5 first edition that I have bee using for nearly three years now is set up for RO like this...

B1 :fire
B2 :alt fire
B3 :IS
B4: reload
Scroll up: next weapon
Scroll down: previous weapon
Tilt left: lean left
Tilt right: lean right
+ = prone
- = toggle crouch

G5 second addition (one button more) is a little more difficult to set up
but can be done.

cheers - thats what i wanted to see. (not only that it was possible but that i wasn't crazy to suggest it)
I'm guessing i could also achieve this with any logitech tilt wheel mouse, as the setpoint drivers seem to fit many models, but at least i know if i fork out the cash for a g5, it's gonna do what i bought it to do.

The drivers are problematic to say the least.
If I update to a newer version I have problems, so I use the driver that came with the mouse and everything works fine.

The second edition G5 has an extra button which is useful and different SetPoint setup interface.
The only way (I have found) to set all of the buttons as I wish, is to set the exe. to all programs rather than individual games.

I also have trouble with Steam/Source games allocating more than 4 buttons, you have to add the Steam Game Overlay exe. into the SetPoint options. Not really a problem with the basic game-play offered by such games.

The mouse really shows its potential with ArmA where double hits are programmable.

Stalker, GTA4 Quake ET, Assassins Creed, KF, Crysis are all good to go...

...

this is what does my head in with mice.
I mean - i understand, as manufacturers add buttons and funtions, that certain older games cant keep up and detect funtions beyond say, mouse button 5.
But come on, setpoint for example is 60mb. You'd think that it could operate on it's user's brainwaves alone with that much driver.
If it can't reliably offer all it's buttons to a the most popular games (ie source based) then at least give you the option of reliably assigning each and every one to a keyboard key?

And if illogitech aren't up to the job, why doesn't someone create a set of custom drivers that can look at any USB mouse you care to plug in, determine the number of functions it has and do the same?
They'd become the biggest mouse heroes since Mickey.

That's all gamers want -
sod 'serious' PC users and their office arseworks command funtion hotkey document-panning one click copy/paste rubbish.

My Deathadder just died after like 3 years. The cord shorted out. I bought a G5 because it was on sale and I had heard good things about Logitech.

I made a bad decision, the Logitech is a piece of junk and I hate it. The clicks are very imprecise, the tracking is imprecise, and the scroll wheel is flimsy and cheap. It is the worst "high end gaming" mouse I have ever used.

On top of all this it is just plain uncomfortable in my hand.

I would go with the Razer bro. My G5 is going to my dad as soon as I get another Razer.

also, it has been months since I been here... looking for RO2 news. WTF yo?

Off topic: Get a G19. Logitech send me one and I realized you can watch **** on the nice color display while playing RO:HOS. I use a G5 and a G7, but that is not really important, except for the fact that Logitech rocks.

I absolutely love my G5, and I would buy another one in a heatbeat. :p

And seriously, you cannot find all the new news about ROHOS???

I bet I love my G5 mouse more than you love yours :D.

I can advance, sprint, jump, dive, whip out my bayonet and stab you even before you know your map position or which side you are fighting for .

Or did that get fixed already...

I'll sell you mine for $20 :p

It is 5 weeks old.

I stick to my story, G5 is the worst mouse over $20 I have ever used. No doubt about it. So cheap and shoddy.

Also, brb, checking news and announcements. :D

It is pretty useless, you can just middle mouse click and get a smooth side scroll while browsing the web. And I would not think of mapping anything to the cheap Logitech scroll button anyway.
